1987 Engine Swap wiring

I picked up an 87 IROC a few weeks ago. The engine had already been pulled, along with the engine wiring harness. I have a carbbed 350 with an HEI distributor ready to go in. What wires do I need to hook up to get it running, and where do I find them? I know I need switched to the starter, ground to the alternator/body, positive to the starter, and a signal wire to the distributor/tach. There are a few wires and connecters left hanging on the firewall, but nothing forward of there, besides the battery + and - cables. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 1987 Engine Swap wiring

Did they remove the headlight wiring harness and the harness that connects to the driverside firewall?

the headlight wiring harness is still there, and I think the harness on the drivers side firewall is still intact. I should have taken some pictures when I was looking at it yesterday.

Re: 1987 Engine Swap wiring

the driverside harness is the one that matters. the one on the pass side ran straight to the ECM, which is useless to you unless youre running a stock type fuel setup. if youre running a non CC carb and hei, you dont need it. youll just need to get a diagram of that firewall connector for your year and figure out what wires you need. you want to take a look at the carb swap threads for more info on that.

I will browse the carb swap threads again. The reason I signed up to this board was from Google searching the carb swap, which brought me here. I've found so much useful info in the last few days!
