What's it worth? 454 BBC forged internals & oval ports

I'm pulling my big block to sell it. I have NO IDEA what it is worth because I got the engine on trade with a friend. I have no idea what it cost in the first place. It has a few thousand miles.

468 forged internals. flat top pistons. ARP hardware
336781 oval ports with manley valves and new 1.7 roller rockers
Fluidampr (new)
roller timing chain (new)
no intake manifold
Crower blower cam and hydrualic lifters (new)

Would I be better selling this as a long block with oval ports, or separating the heads and selling a forged short block? I have a B&M 177 blower that I need to sell and I was thinking of pulling the new cam and selling it with the blower.

Whenever you get a price figured out, LMK assuming you're from the Southern Illinois area.

Re: What's it worth? 454 BBC forged internals & oval ports

I'm in Peoria. Not too far away. Hey, if you're interested in this engine let's just start talking. I have other new parts beside the engine:

- March billet serpentine pulley system
- MSD 6AL BTM
- SFI approved flexplate
- SFI approved flywheel
- Spohn adjustable torque arm with spherical rod end and Tremec TKO supports
- custom made Lemons headers for 3rd gen with TH400. This is the only set in the world. They are tri-Y headers that dump on each side of the tranny pan. Every 3rd gen owner with a big block would kill for these headers.

The engine picture below is with the Hooker ceremic headers. I don't have those any more because they were the most stupid design you could ever come up with. The Lemons are the black headers.

Sounds like a very nice motor, not to mention custom Lemons!!!!

Forged, blown, march, Lemons headers, 781 heads

6xx HP??

Ready to drop & go?

Good luck Qwk!!

Re: What's it worth? 454 BBC forged internals & oval ports

I didn't mean to turn this into a 'for sale' thread. I really do need help figuring out the value and would appreciate if the mods leave this here.

Ya, it is a nice motor. Great pump gas combo and it will last a long time. I dropped it in several years ago and could never bring myself to cut the hood on my car. I've been rotating the assembly by hand perodically. The cam and lifters have never been run and need to be broken in at start up. The supercharger needs to be rebuilt because the guy who polished it contaminated the gear sets with polish dust. Plenty of places in Chicago that do that. Oil pan is a deep high capacity Moroso.

I built it as a powerful engine that would be the last one I would ever have to put in my car. Project stalled out when I got married. It's been a while and now I'm fat and rich and I'm going to get my car back on the road again under LS power with the hood closed.

You can probably get $4,000-4,500 for the motor without the blower. If it's a safe compression with the blower and flat tops, I can't see why you won't get $6,500-7,000ish.

Are you serious? That's a lot of money. That's great news if it's true, but I can't imagine somebody parting with that much money instead of building their own.

Any second and third opinions?

say WHAT? That doesn't sound anywhere near accurate. Maybe WITH the blower, I could see that.. but definitely not without it.

I agree..
With the low compression its really forced induction specific

You can have a performance built 468 short block with forged internals for around $2000.AL heads are $1500 from Patriot and then $500 for misc stuff.I spent less than this on my new bigger motor.

With that said I am interested in the serpentine system..Pulleys,brackets and even ps pump depending on the price. Lemme know ASAP

Alright I added it up, it's probably worth about $3000-3500 on motor. If he's completely forged it's about $1200 to price together a rotating assembly, more then likely $1500-1600 (if it's a forged crank). Around here 454 blocks go for about $500-700. Machined 781s are a bit over a grand used, after intake, carb and headers I'd call it another $750-800 at a minimum. Full belt accessories you can add a few hundred more.

I don't know the chamber size on 781's but it's gotta be yielding around 9-9.5:1? Only drawback to the motor is a blower cam. With the blower it's probably worth 5-6 grand.

I'm hesitant to sell the pulley kit until the engine is gone. It helps set my engine apart from the rest of the field and I can use it as a negotiating tool. Plus, that's an item I can sell any day of the week without a problem so there's no risk to me keeping it for a bit. Once the engine is gone I'll be glad to work with you if I still have the kit.
