Insurance doesn't decide from your engine size, but the amount of doors, my V6 was actually 3 times the amount my V8 is now.. Just pick a different company..

Changing engines will not stop you from getting a ticket - that's just plain ignorance. It ultimately comes down to how much a$$ing off you do in your car, and how much of an irresponsible idiot you represent yourself as being (I can say this, because like everyone else here, I myself have been an irresponsible idiot).
Just purely in the fact that you would even consider a $5000+ swap that you'd never ever finish anyway in order to save yourself $1000 a year on insurance reveals alot You could just buy another 6cyl 3rd gen to drive for under $1000 and work on this one getting it 'ready' for the day your insurance isn't an issue.
There's enough hacked to death 3rd gens out there already. Drive the car as is, look into a different insurance company - generally liability is based on the driver first, car second - given your accident, you may not get a better rate no matter how small the motor is.
