WHY!? If I was to do that type of mod I would have to go with a Duramax. Lot more power to be had out of one of those over the 6.2 or 6.5.

I have a 6.5 turbo in my work truck and it is a pooch on power. Gets great MPG though!

Diesel power is torque. It's made for low end brute strength.
My truck has a 6.0 Powerstroke (IHC VT365). A lot of the guys around the shop feel in a car, the International V6 VT275 would be a great swap. For a small engine, it's got a huge amount of power.
There are far better choices for a diesel swap than the 6.5

My first thought...... It has been done. My second thought is 6.5TD's are awful. I just put a performance computer and 4in exhaust on one and they may as well not even have exhaust because all the sound comes from the horrible racket the motor makes.

I dont see the point in the 6.5. There are better choices for sure. But the theory behind putting a big huffing diesel into an f-body is def a cool one.

Well, the reason i am asking, i have a VORTEC truck and a f-body ..i am now swaping a diesel in the truck and will open a shop here , to do tehse swaps..so i was just wondering..mmhhhhh
My NOW camaro is getting a 383 soon and maybe ..an other one will get a diesel..but i think the 6.5's are much easyer and more reliable then the computericed duramax stuff altough i agree.. they are stronger..but to much money for what u get IMO.

Would you really get enough business doing strange swaps? I know it happens from time to time and the shop across the street from me just got an order to put a duramax in an Escalade . As for the 6.5's again not a big fan, but I love 6.2's and with a good injection pump they will run forever just like newer stuff.

The 6.2 and 6.5 are almost the same ??!!! and i think YES..there are a bunch of guys that want to do it since the economy is not getting better soon..and gas is going up..i mean so is diesel but if u can keep your car/truck and come out with more then twice the miles ...yep, i think so!
BUT HEY...u never know. i might hit the wall

Worst thing about the 6.2 is trying to find one that doesn't have cracked heads.

Re: HAS ANYONE EVR STUCK A 6.5 TD in A CAMARO ?
Seems like a useless swap to me. Yea it may be cool but way too much torque to ever hook the tires up and SOOOO much added weight. The car would be useless. I can understand the gas mileage argument, but put in an LS1 and 6 speed and your getting 27-28 mpg highway. And for much cheaper of a swap than the diesel I'm sure as well.
If I JUST wanted a gas efficient motor in a third gen to cruise around and not care about performance, I'd probably do a cummins 4BT swap. Reliable, small, excellent torque and gas mileage, and available in a stick or auto trans.

I have also been debating this build for quite some time. All the guys above who posted links to forums about the 4th gen camaros getting diesels, thats just it 4th gens not 3rd gens. Once you strip down the camaro you start to see all these little possibilities, and one of them was the diesel swap. With proper time and planning this would be one amazing project. So if you are going to do this I personally would like to be informed of its progress.

I am not going to do this to mine, for right now. But we are opening a custom diesel shop here soon and we can stick a diesel in any vehicle there is !!!!!!
I just asked this to see if there is anybody that has done this already.
So if u want a diesel, just let me know !!!!!
