how to finish this 350 whatcha think
hey guys ,
what do you think would be a better performing setup a carb (decent q-jet) with high rise intake
the cam is an erson the specs are
grind hi flow ah
108 lobe separation angle
overlap 68.00
intake opens 34.00 exhaust closes 34.00
intake closes 70.00 exhaust opens 70.00
running clearance 0.000 0.000 [hot]
valve lift (int/exh) 0.472 0.472
duration (int/exh) 284 284
@.050 tappet rise
overlap 4.00
intake opens 2.00 exhaust closes 2.00
intake closes 38.00 exhaust opens 38.00
duration intake 220.0 duration exhaust 220.0
lobe lift intake 0.315 lobe lift exhaust 0.315
intake center line 108
rocker arm ratio 1.50
and fresh 193's for the heads
or using the tpi setup with the 305 roller cam or maybe a hotcam with the 193's
or that tpi setup with the 305 heads from the tpi and a hotcam/or 305 cam
we gotta keep in mind my block is decked with flat topped pistons with VR
the block is still sitting on the stand with the crank rods and pistons in ...just havent ever completely decided on top end lol im mostly towards cam (ive got everything for it)
what ya'll think?

193s and flat-tops. Ugh. I'd lose sleep over either of those build options if it were mine.
Unless you're in Denver, or somewhere else very high.
I think I'd use the Elgin E1129M, on a 108 degree intake centerline, and a good-quality timing chain that won't stretch like all the $20 chains.

Re: how to finish this 350 whatcha think
even if i run on premium and add booster?
honestly the build was my machinist idea i told him i have a 95 350 shortblock and i want to be at around 400hp or 350hp at least
yes i know 400hp out of 193's is not going to happen but these are the nice shiny fresh ones he sold me. i was looking for vortecs but he called me one day and said "hes got some heads for me that fit my build" well yes its my fault i should have done research on the heads before purchasing them but the guy has become a friend and had the trust factor this is my first build and hes the expert
now im at a loss ive got loots of money tied up in an engine thats in parts...parts that i dont know if i want to use
my question is, is my hp goal out of the question with the 193's or even just using the 305 heads with the high rise intake and q-jet carb with cam spec'd above (i have a pbm double roller timing set)or should i use the tpi setup to get to that goal ...i cant spend a whole lot more on this engine due to i need to spend money on the trans rearend interior and bodywork/paint
i have had people tell me to use the roller cam from the 305 put the tuned port stuff on with the 305 heads and run it...but im completely at a loss
im stumped is there any hope for me
just in case its needed heres basic info sumd up on the engine
1995 350 2 bolt 30 over
block decked
flat top pistons with valve releaf
double roller timing set
shortey headers
melling oil pump
have not bought my dizzy yet i was going to use a stock hei and buy the upgrade kit from summit
4" cowl hood
of corse no emissions equipment or a/c crap

You have 305 heads?!? Which casting number?
If he's worth knowing, he'll refund your money and take the 193s back.
Then you'll have funds to get a decent cam and get the 305 heads done, if they're one of the decent versions.
If they're 416s, 081s, 601(or is that 602) then just get them cut for 1.94" intake valves.
Even so, your 2 cams still suck.
If you do the 305 heads, assuming they're not swirl-port, then use a 224/230-112 cam, that should get you close to 370 horses. It'll pull to 6000 rpm.

89 Lb9 heads should be the good 081 heads. Are they not accessible to check the casting number though? You never know someone may have changed them at some point.

416 are NOT center bolt. 081s are about 55 cc, but if you use the 224/230-112 cam, that'll be okay.
