Locating the power steering
Anyone have a good idea how to locate the power steering in an 87 iroc camaro on a Gen 1 small block chevy swap. I am doing an engine swap but can not figure out how to get the power steering on the new engine. The old bracket off the 305 tpi attaches on the outside of the exhaust manifold. I put hooker headers on and so I can not attach to them. It would seem that anyone who has put headers on with the existing TPI set up would have run into this problem as well. Any ideas how to get that bracket to attach that has the belt tensionier slide on it? Or is their an after market bracket to attach the power steering?

I never cared if my engines look ghetto, so I just use a longer bolt and a stack of washers. It works just fine.

ever tried a pipe that fits around the bolt to clean it up? Just thought of that. I think I need to use similar spacing techniques to get it to screw in through the other holes as well. Done that before any tips?

i made my own bracket that utilizes the two bolt holes on the front of the drivers side head

Which Hooker headers did you put on? The 2055HKR's come with the spacer so you can use the original exhaust manifold bolt in that one place.

I'd bet it was the 2460s. The initial price is lower, but the consequence is nearly always that the local-made Y-pipe doesn't flow as well as the Y that Hooker only includes with the 2055s, instead of also offering separately. That's why I prefer MAC Performance.

Got it done. I used the stud bolt off the old 305. Then I had a piece of pipe that fit around the bolt cut to the right length all in place and ready for the next challange . Thanks for the suggestions the spacer worked.

As far as which headers, yeah I must have got the wrong ones. That's pretty typical for me Either that or it was in the bag and I did not see it.

If your headers didn't come with a Y-pipe (and seeing your picture, I doubt they did), they aren't the 2055HKR's. I don't know one way or the other if the 2460HKR's come with the spacer, but I'd guess they don't.
Doing what you did is the correct way to resolve the issue. The tube/spacer should be the same length as the stock exhaust manifold is thick where the bolt goes through it.

It is I measured before I cut for once. I am slow but figuring it out. Amazing that somethings are actually working the first time now because of the imense pain I previously caused myself. They are hard lessons to forget
