305 CARB to 350 TPI or TBI swap
I have a 305 Carb '85 z28
I'm trying to swap to a 350 TBI or TPI
which would be easier and how should I do this
also if I'm just puting in the 350 block could I just use my carb? if so how?
I'm trying to find easiest ways to do this because my piston rings are shot and I still need a car for work

350 TBI - requires harness/ECM change-out, install higher pressure fuel pump (including wiring/relays/switches).
350 TPI - requires harness/ECM change-out, higher pressure fuel pump (including wiring/relays/switches).
350 with existing carb - remove the 305, put 350 in its place. Install your existing carb stuff.

well... I was getting blue smoke.... so I checked the spark plugs and they had oil deposits... and honestly right now it'll be cheaper to but the 350 then rebuild the 305... which is prolly what I would have done eventually anyway... I;m not 100 percent sure that was it because I never did the compression check and all that... mainly cause I don't have access to a shop till Sat.

Most likely that's your valve stem seals. 305 shortblocks are pretty stout. The valve stem seals are not.
No problem going with the 350, of course, but you'll likely have to do the same things to the heads that you'd have to do to your 305 heads.
When you say "350 block", are you talking about the shortblock (block, crank, pistons, rods), or longblock (above with heads)? If shortblock, your 305 heads will probably work fine on it. If longblock, depending upon what they are exactly, there's about a 75% chance your 305 heads are better.
If you have access to them, post the block and heads casting #'s.
