WHAT FITS UNDER STOCK HOOD?
I have searched, but I have not really found the answers I am looking for. This question has been a long time coming. I figure that most people really do not care if they have to buy an aftermarket hood. Me on the other hand, I really enjoy a stock appearance. Stock wheels, stock hood, stock stereo head unit, etc.
I currently have a 1992 Z28 with the 5.0 TPI. If I have read correctly, I will NOT be able to fit a much under the stock hood. I don't want to bring up the build the TPI up debate. I am going to pass on building the TPI up due to the fact that TPI and lopey idle don't mix. I would like a simple in and out swap. A crate motor to be precise.
I am looking to get around 300-400 Horsepower, and I am planning on running the T56. I am not looking for a power adder, rather a fresh engine with a little more power and a nice lopey idle that I dream of
I am thinking a budget 3K-4K would be fair.
Has anyone else gone down this path and found a solution?

anything will fit, in my opinion the only clearance issues that arises is when it comes to the intake you choose... that's what will give you clearance issues...

Re: WHAT FITS UNDER STOCK HOOD?
I've been building a 412 SBC setup (over the course of years, it feels like).
I've got the block, a smaller dual plane intake, 750 Holley carb and drop base filter and it SEEMS to all fit below the stock hood. I wont know for sure until everything is buttoned up.
The drop base filter is a HUGE must if you even want to get close to fitting.

Re: WHAT FITS UNDER STOCK HOOD?
in my opinion the LSX motors are the best fitting/looking swap out there, they totally look factory in there, but I had an old school 355ci in my '91 before the '04 GTO LS1 thats in there now, wich had Edelbrock Performer RPM heads & MPFI(multi port fuel injection) w/ k&n CAI (cold air intake) fit /looked great under the stock hood too!
I still have this fuel inj. system & cold air intake for sale for 1/2 price of new if youre still looking & it comes w/ everything that youll need to upgrade the air/fuel sys. in your fbody, just fyi.
