MY FIRST 350 BUILD
well. i recently purchased a 96 vortec 350, mint block amazing shape. i was going to do TPI but found out about the HSR> so heres what i've got.
-350 vortec, stock bottom end
-vortec heads with new seals and beehive springs (good to .525 lift)
-Cloyes timing chain
-Hsr intake and fuel rails.as well as the fuel pressure regulator that came with it
-24lb/hr injectors
-comp cams XE cam .495/.503, 269/276 duration 112 LS
-700R4 with shift kit and stock stall for now.
-stuck on headers(longtubes or shorties)
-3.27 gears
-a/c delete
-cold air intake
- 160 lb/tq starter
-hi-flow cat 2.5 inch exhaust flowmaster 40 series muffler
I started last wknd by pulling off the fenders and front clip, the4re was some shitty rust spots on the drivers side strut tower, so now i gotta do some welding. planning on giving the enfine bay fresh paint regardless. this weekend i will pull the 305 out. i will post some pics when i get a little more ahead
just curious is anyone has any kind of idea on what power i should be putting down. i'm planning on boring my stock throttle body to 52mm.
If anyonbe has any suggestions that would be great. i have everything right now just a matter of time to do everything my car is 30 mins away in the country so i can only work on it on weekends. is there anything i'm missing? i'm also on a TIGHT budget, (basically broke now lol)
thanks

Power will definitely be limited by the 2.5" exhaust (assuming single, because you didn't use plurals to describe your system). You need at least 3" single, although 2.5" dual would be fine.
You really don't need long tubes for this. But, if budget is limited, a set of Hedman 1-5/8" longtubes with 2.5" duals would be fine. A much better choice would be Dyno Don's 1-3/4" shorties & y-pipe, but understand they alone will cost as much as the Hedmans and do-it-yourself duals.
Is that the roller version of the XE cam? Hope so.
Be sure it's the Vortec version of the HSR.

Re: MY FIRST 350 BUILD
everything is suited based on the vortec block, as for the headers.SO NEW PURCHASE, I just picked up brand never used wrapped shorties and y-pipe, 2.5 inch for $180 bucks, couldnt past it up really. the y-pipe alone would cost over 200 bucks. it is a roller cam

It's the heads that are "Vortec" more than the block, but sounds like you've got that in hand.
Wrap usually isn't recommended for headers because it tends to trap moisture and corrode the headers away. Up to you what you decide to do with it.

Re: MY FIRST 350 BUILD
Well its been a while but things are coming together. I've got the engine bay all cleaned up and fresh paint.now it's time for the motor to go in. If anyone can post up things they needed/ did not need for an HSR swap that would be appreciated. IE vacuum lines, things they have removed, heater hose routing. I have deleted the AIR system and AC keeping the heat tho as I want to drive mine until it starts snowing.i've taken out the factory heating and cooling air box and grabbed one out of a camaro with no AC, i mean just little stuff, i want to keep it clean therefor I will be removing all connectors that will not be reused. anything you guys can tell me so i can get it running faster as i'm not good with the electronical part of this stuff whatsoever.
thanks again

Re: MY FIRST 350 BUILD
Thanks man, It was a PITA to get it looking like that, all i can say it make it clean, i hate when people open their hoods and it looks like crap, plus you feel like it runs that much better when it's clean. post some pics of your build along the way. i wont have mine finished until about sept.
