Sorry to bring this post back up. I just wanted to say thanks for the advice I picked up. I had some money coming in and was going to buy a T/A with it. Now I think I will go back to college. I have an associate degree in electronics engineering which turns out to be useless. At 23 I figured I was to old to return and go for a four year degree. I am going to use the money I have to go to college and if I have any left over when I get established down there I will buy a beater v6 thirdgen to hold me over until I graduate and can afford the car of my dreams. So thank you everyone. I accidently picked up some of the best advice of my life. I really apreciate it.

The things i looked for were no rust or major body damage(straight frame) and a V8. and i found a 90 iroc needed paint and motor work but it was more thnworth it when old owner saw a couple of months ago and was pissed to see it such great shape. Well a week afterthat i thru a rod and am throwing new v8 had been building for it

CWIROC - That is a great find for 400 dollars. The Trans AM is beyond words. I am going back to school for sure. What did you major in? I was thinking Computer Science and Engineering. I would like to end up a network admin. I have an associate degree in Electronics Engineering from ITT in Ohio. Unfortunely even though the degree is state reconized, public colleges will not reconize it. So all the credits and 24K is lost. Belive me an associate degree is worthless unless you are extremely lucky. Any advice would be more than welcomed.

Actually i was in school for Computer sciences while there i went and studied for MCSE and then CCNA(microsoft and cisco cert) and got a job(which i am at right now)paying 60k 2 years ago(make alot more now). It wasnt easy iwas in college and i knew more than the professors because they were not up to date. College is behind in computers in a lot of areas. I'dalmost say tech schools are better because have actual working envoriment for networking. I love my job because i work one week on and one week off. Its is the bomb to be young and have a good job other than the NBA.lol. But yeah, if you ever want tochat ican give you the goods on tech school. Send me a message and ill give you my 1800#.Not a pay info mercial.LOL!Isounded so advertisementy

i'd say go out and look for a TA or formula......IF you didnt worry bout money.....but since you do.......i'd say just keep it and run it like it is
i am yet another one of those youngin's that want to make their third gen faster.......im 16....and i gotta 305HOe....i WANT to build up a vortec 350 for my car....ever since my bro did for his 73 nova a couple summers ago.....well i still may do it....but now i have $600 insurance comin up the first of the month, someone keyed my car...body shop says $200 to fix cuz they have to repaint from the door back, gotta get a new tire cuz i didnt change the ball joints soon enough and it screwed up my tire so now it doesnt wear right...........IF i get all those paid off soon enough....then i will do the vortec build.......if not.....then i guess im stuck with 15 second 1/4 mile times and having to worry about FAMILY cars being able to beat me in a race .........maybe im still too pissed off from the keying of my car....but man am i pissed that GM ever put 305's in these cars

i would say if you like your se than take the 2.8 t5 combo out and put in that 305 and get a v8 t 5 to got with it and put that back in the se. dont make the 305 stock modd it out. dont change it from stick to auto. i hate when people do that. theres not enough 3rd gen sticks now! instead of converting from stick to auto people should be converting from auto to stick

[QUOTE=1984Firebird502;332923]Hey, compared to your deal, anything I ask for is going to be too much. Thanks for the pointers. Not everyone gets a formula for 1500.
nah, not everyone gets a formula for 1500...i got mine for 500 bucks(near mint, 117k miles) and all it needed to run was a 60 dolla fuel pump. sounded good to me, till now a year later im rippin out the carpet and i find the drivers floor pan rusted out. a Good 3rd gen, turn key will be around 4500-6000 bucks. thats No rust, No mechanical problems, mint interior and a near mint paint job.
good luck

Looking at your webpage you need the money for school. Use the $2000 (you might use on the other guys car)for school. Keep your car until the wheels fall off or you can get more cash.
I know from experience. Really great cars will come and go but your education (if done right) will buy hundreds of cars later.

+1 big time on this comment, i dumped like 3,500 into my car i could've used to pay bills while i'm in school. My car woulda still been waiting for me once i graduated, and maybe then i could've spent a bit more money on it and make it nicer. If i were you and planning on college, i would be saving my money for a college kid car, you know something reliable, cheap insurance and decent gas mileage, or if your car is decently reliable just keep it like it is, and only fix the broken stuff.
EDIT:Oh crap i just realized this was a six year old thread, i hope he's earned some sort of degree by now.

I can tell you that the 2.8 is a piece of garbage. You've gotta watch out with the T5 also. They were not put behind 350s for a reason. They're not designed to handle the HP or torque. The 700R4 is more suitable for that motor.
