Another question for the smart people here.

All right guys, its my understanding that the only differences between the 1987-1990 Camaro’s is they came in three option classes, IROC, Z-28, and RS. Furthermore, in 1991-1992 there were some minor interior/exterior changes.

The IROC’s weren’t anything to special, tuned port injection, different spring rates, bigger tires, bigger rims, bigger sway bars, the like, nothing that couldn’t/wouldn’t get replaced on any car I get, Z-28 were a step down, some came with carbs, but the basic options were still there (ie: 5 speed, and all other interior options that came on the IROC’s), And the RS was an anemic Camaro that had a 6 banger, here is where my question arises, what are the exact differences in the RS and the Z-28, I want to buy a Camaro and swap a used 1994 LT-1 with a T-56 six speed, so the engine part is not really that important. Did the RS’s come with different gauges? Did they come with a different rear-end Gears? I need to know specifics. I would really appreciate a lot of pictures with this one guys.

Now about the swap, would it really be feasible to do a 5.7L T-56 swap into a third gen that came w/ a little 6 banger?

Hi,

I'm not one of the smart one's here, but I do know one thing that I've heard over and over again. Taking an original V6 3rd Gen and swapping it to V8 is not the wisest way to go.

Here is a recent thread for you to look at that might give you some ideas V6 to 5.7:

https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/001584.html

For the record, the RS could be had with 305 TBI's, too.

Oh and one other thread:

https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/001401.html

Hope this helps until the smarter members get here.

Good Luck.

There was no RS for a couple years, it was a SC insted. (Sport Coupe). There was also a Berlinetta that was a "classy" low end model. If you want a LT1 6 speed, you'd probably be best off looking for a manual car so you already have pedals and such inside.

Car: '92 RS
RS: 305 TBI with 5M/4A
Z28: 350 TPI with 4A
Iroc: 305 TPI(?) with 5M/4A

Ive got the RS and it came with the piece of sh*t 305 and T5 manual, also drum brake rear with 3.08 open diff. I should have found an Iroc or Z-28 becuase of the amount of money Im having to spend to upgrade everything. engine has already been taken care of and Im about to put in and Iroc disk brake posi rear. next after that is probably Iroc springs. it doesnt really matter what the car has in it right now becuase practically everything gets swapped. trust me

I'm pretty sure that from like 87-90 there was no Z28 option, hence the name IROC-Z28 those years. I'll agree with the above statement on swapping a V8 into a V6 car. It's probably more trouble than you're bargaining for.

Getting there.....383 with Super Ram, Bosch 24# SVO's, MSD, Edelbrock 58 mm TB, 700R4 tranny, Eibach springs, Koni 12 way adjustable shocks and struts, and more!! Now let's pray it runs when it's all back together!!!!

Just a little note,
The rear drums for 87 90 im pretty sure were aluminum, so they were lighter and dissapated heat better.
