carb or tpi
I hope I dont get scolded for asking. I have a 90 iroc with 305 tpi complete 156k miles not running dont know whats wrong with it. I want to upgrade to a 1999 vortec 350 with 906 heads I have complete motor altho I will rebuild before installing. Will this tpi intake fit? Even if it will, would I be better off putting a carb and ditching the computer? I will be running street, strip.

Re: carb or tpi
If you decide to stay TPI, you will need to get a lower intake manifold, the "base", from Scoggin-Dickey. Once you do that, you then have the option of an Accel Super-Ram. That's great if you're going to stroke it to a 383, which you may as well do if you're gonna rebuild it. The carburetor isn't that much cheaper in the end, and gives up mpg. Plus even if there's no emissions testing near you right now, that could change at any time. If you stay TPI, you'll have great power to 4500 rpm, but then it falls on it's face. The SuperRam is for 383s turning 6000 rpm, and there are other choices like the Weiand Stealth Ram, we all call it the HSR.

The Vortec-version Holley/Weiand Stealth Ram (HSR) is about the same price as just the Vortec TPI base. You will need a different throttle body with the HSR, and different fuel rails. But, you would need better runners with the Vortec TPI base, so by the time you spend all that money, you might as well get the HSR.
You didn't mention any specific changes to the Vortec engine, so just the Vortec base and the rest of the TPI stock would probably run okay. If you change the cam, figure on needing better valve springs, and then the TPI would need to be upgraded. If your plan is for power at 5500 RPMs, plan on cam change, valve spring change, possibly valve guide cutting, and a complete aftermarket TPI set-up.
And PROM tuning, of course, since '90 TPI is speed density and doesn't take well to changes like this.

Thanks Five the heads have already been worked the machinist said they would handle up to .560 lift? So I guess he measured the springs pressure I would be putting new roller cam as big as the heads would handle.Nothing new to block but boring 30 over flat top pistons would have to let it run pump gas
