Re: torque arm
Your rear end is connected by the torque arm to the trans mount for drivetrain stability. If you remove the torque arm the rear end will roll up and be out of alignment. You have to have the torque arm.

Well, you don't have to have the torque arm.
But, you do need something to keep the rear axle assembly from twisting.

Re: torque arm
b&m and hurst make kits to adapt the torque arm to the th350. i have personal experience with the b&m kit, realatively easy to use. also jegs and a few other companies make crossmember mounted or trans tunnel mount brackets, so the torque arm can be retained. beyond that it boils down to personal preference about transmissions.

Re: torque arm
I have been asked this question once before, and it makes me wonder, has anyone ever "oh I don't need this, excess weight" and tried to drive without it? That would be interesting to say the least!

Without the torque arm, you'll snap your rear u-joint and maybe the shocks at the first application of power. Without the torque arm, the rear springs are enough to send the pinion skyward.
