305 HO 175HP to 215HP Oem ?
I'm looking at doing some NASA time trials. I have a 84 Camaro Z and a 83Z with crossfire injection. the 83 is for parts. The rule book says i can swap parts from year to year as long as its from the same model and as long as they are OEM. My question is the CFI car has a 175hp motor in it and the most powerful stock 305 was in 85 iroc. What do I need to do to make the 175 a 215 hp motor? Is it in the came or in the heads or in the comp or all the above?

I was planning on using the carb off of the 84 and I looking for a LG4 or L69 aluminum intake. Would I still use the exhaust combo you suggest? Do you see any problems with my plan? The CFI engine won't stay running, something to do with the CFI so I thought I'd rebuild the motor and put it in the 84.Ditch the CFI.

Just how lenient are they with the rules? is this a race-only car, or will it be street driven?
For race-only, and liberal with the rules, the best intake would be from a '70-'71 Z28. Old design, but still more flow. And if you can do that, you may as well build you a '70 Z/28-spec LT-1, which is not the same as a '92-'97 LT1. Though that would be a great Z28 engine as well, as would an LS1, though that doesn't look remotely like a SBC. If you're stuck with third-gen, then the top offering of all was the 245 HP 350 in the '91-'92 Z28.
Going to a 350 should be easy, even for street-legal AND race legal. Then you have the chance to use an '87-up block, and the LT4 cam and 1.6:1 rockers. Unlike the '70 cam, this one would pass an emissions test, and build way more low-rpm torque, while still pulling hard up top.
If you're stuck 305, still find a later block and do the LT4 cam.

Re: 305 HO 175HP to 215HP Oem ?
In my class the car has to be street legal. No emissions on my car for an 84 in NC.The motor has to a camaro but I'm not sure I can go to a 350. Still researching. All the parts have to be OEM.I have a 71 350 4bolt main and some pretty good heads and I'll use that if I can.Do you know if I can bolt all the 305 stuff onto it?The car needs to look stock?

Bolting 305 stuff to a 350 is easy. The only difference in the blocks is the bore diameter. Why don't you just post a link to the rules?
