350 4 bolt main

I am the guy that was going to put the 327 in my 84 Firebird. Turns out the 68 C10 i bought with a supposed 327 is really just a 350. It is a 4 bolt main. the guy i bought it from said it was a 327 bored .030 over. So maybe it is a 350 bored .030 over? Is this a good engine to build from? Right now it has the bore, a hydraulic cam (guy didn't tell me the durations) and a 660 carb. The heads are way to small for this motor, so they will have to be changed. I am working on a budget so does anyone have any ideas on what heads would be good and preferably inexpensive? Should I change the cam cause I have no clue what is in it beside what the dude told me? I have a set of solid lifters and roller tip rockers sitting around that were for a sbc 267 that I was building but stopped when I bought this engine. Will they work on the 350? I am bolting it to a turbo350, what stall should I use? Any suggestions on a starter and headers also? Any other suggestions would be awesome too. Also, should I keep the 660 carb? And the firebird used to have a 305 carbed engine. Thanks in advance.

"Just" a 350? The 350 is a better engine than a 327.

Have you actually measured the stroke to know that it's a 350 and not a 327?

Re: 350 4 bolt main

Sorry to offend, i was just excited to have a 327 and let down not to have it. Is the 4 bolt main still good since it is not a 2 bolt? i am ran the numbers and that is how I know it is a 350 not a 327. it is a 1975 Chevy truck 350, so I figured it is a 4 bolt.

Yes 4 bolt is more desirable than a 2 bolt motor. I think you will be happier that you have this 350 over the 327 imo

What numbers did you run?

The 4 bolt is more desired than the 2 bolt, but not necessarily more desirable. There isn't anything streetable you can do with a 4 bolt block that you couldn't do with a 2 bolt.

Re: 350 4 bolt main

The shop where I brought the truck to have the engine removed ran the block casting numbers to find it was from a 1975 chevy truck 350.

Block casting numbers don't tell you that it's a 350 and not a 327. They both use the same block.

Re: 350 4 bolt main

Then I don't know how the guy at the shop knew. He told me he ran the numbers and it is a 1975 350 truck engine. Sorry for any inconsistencies.

Re: 350 4 bolt main

Apeiron is striving to make the point that a 350 can have a 327 crank in it, and becomes a 327. Chances are good that your 1975 truck motor is indeed a 350 - with a 350 crank in it.
But that's the point - chances. If you want to be sure, measure the stroke of the crank.
3.25" = 327 cubes
3.48" = 350 cubes.

660 carb?

what's your budget on this rebuild anyway?

Re: 350 4 bolt main

Thank you much for the help. i will have to get the stroke measured. Sorry too about the typo, I meant 650 cfm carb (that is what is on it now). I didn't really have a budget, but I am trying to stay in a good shopping range. I don't mind spending money on good parts, but then again i do not need top of the line parts. If I spend too much money my girlfriend will kill me because we are saving for a house.
