Well i bought a 1987 Camaro RS, its got the small 2.8 V6. I bought it as a project car, and im pretty much almost done restoring it. Im pretty much done with the paint, bodywork, interior, rims, and tires, and now i want to do an engine swap.

but i need a 700r4 tranny and the total cost would be around $7000 delivered with the engine and tranny.

Im not really experienced with mechanics, but ive heard the LS1 is the way to go, because everything fits, but what kind of tranny should i use for an LS1, and can you buy new LS1's?...what do yall think the total cost would be for the whole swap?

Any ideas/advice?

you really need to read up on the ls1 swap. It is not a basic "drop in" motor. If you are going to do a v6 to v8 swap, I would try to find a donor car. This can be done real cheap. You need not only the motor and trans, but all the engine driven accessories, pulleys and brackets. You will need a V8 distributor, ect. Lets say you go with a crate motor, if you have a v8 donor car, you still have everything you need to put that new/rebuilt motor in place. If you are not very experienced, this would make for a much better experience than going with the LS swap.
