Any crate a direct drop in?

All the crates are carb'd or too fancy like a LS1. Isn't there anything I could buy, drop in, change and prom and be done?

I'm prepared to beef up the rear and tranny, and even change the hood for clearance.

Thanks

Re: Any crate a direct drop in?

buy a long block crate motor and bolt ur tpi to it....or a carbed one and yank off the carb intake and once again bolt your tpi setup to it...

Thats what I was thinking of doing. How easy is that? Will any 350 work or what?

Re: Any crate a direct drop in?

I have 24# injectors on my 305 right now.

Can't I put my TPI on this?

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...41-P18C53.aspx

I see it's the base, I have my 305 running so I can put all the accessories on it so if my TPI can be put do you think this is the way to go? I have to change my prom to the 350 prom but that is simple.

My Dad's friend has a garage with lifts and **** so I have the people to help me.

Scoggins Dickey has two one 300 horse and one 360 horse vortec TPI. has vortec heads with TPI intake. Wish I would have waited.

Re: Any crate a direct drop in?

What information I gathered, when you swap a tpi to any of the carb crate engines, the horsepower will drop around 20-30 hp. That's with a stock tpi setup.

The valve covers don't have anything to do with the rear main seal type. By 1986, all SBC crankshafts were one-piece rear main seal. Not that it matters that much, all you're talking about is a $35 flexplate. '86-earlier heads is a bigger headache, though.

Anyway, a couple of '87-up 350 choices:
New: http://www.sdparts.com/product/12513...RollerCam.aspx
Rebuilt: http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...24108034860.3f Tell them you're upgrading from 305 to 350, and that you want roller lifters and 083 casting heads (if you order on-line, they will call and ask you some questions to make sure you know what you're ordering). You'll need to reuse all your tin, and the rear main seal carrier.

You will either need to reflash the PROM for the 350, or get a '90-'92 L98 PROM. The 24 lb injectors are bigger than necessary, but will work.

Re: Any crate a direct drop in?

wow i dont know what the hell i was smoking right there i meant 1 peice im glad u caught that.... and yeah the pre 87 heads are a bigger headache thats why i said the centerbolt heads and like i just said meant to say 1 piece rear seal...good lil quick visuals to narrow down a search....thanks for the correction....i need to proofread myself now on i guess lol....
