355 build up
ok guys im gonna be putting a 355 together when i get back from my deployment in sept. so far i already have the short block built. forged speed pro pistons, GM "X" rods, stock crank, Comp cam ".495/.503, .218/.224 on a 112 LSA". im looking at picking up a set Summit Alum. heads. they seem to be pretty decent. 200cc intake runners, 64cc Combustion chambers, with 2.02s.(has anyone had any experince with these?) i also have a HSR with 24 lbs injectors that i will be running. i was wondering what everyones thoughts are on this combo. im hoping for mid to high 12s out of it. any advice will be great.

Make sure that whatever you do, you check and then doublecheck your costs for everything. Will you do the work yourself? Will a machine shop build it? Will you install the motor yourself? Will a shop do it? Get quotes for everything. I just sort of winged it and I'm up around the $8000 mark now from start to finish lol! And then, once you finish your budget, double it. Then you'll be in the ballpark of what you'll spend for your engine build. hehe I think mid-high 12's on this build is going to be a stretch with what you've listed. I have a friend who's camaro has a 383 putting 390hp to the wheels. He's just barly running 12.7 in the quarter mile now. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in?
Is this a roller block and cam? If so, I'd go a little bigger on the cam, say .515 or so. The heads are basically the same size as the World Sportsman II heads. I don't know what you are paying but I would look at the Dart Iron Eagle's or the Sportsman's before going with summit. Are you going to buy them bare or pre-assembled? If pre-assembled, makesure they'll handle the spring pressure and height your new cam is going to thow at them. Do you have emissions to worry about? Something else that you'll need to consider when you buy the heads. The stock crank should handle 400-450hp with no problem (I'm assuming this is a 350 you're building up to a 355?) and the pistons and rods should also handle just as much.

Re: 355 build up
With my old camaro i had 408 hp at the flywheel.
On street tires 13.303 @ 112.5
On slicks 12.295 @ 113.9
A car has to all work together..... peices chosen that compliment each other. Gearing, trans, torque converter, tires, weight..... everything is important.
I got about the same thin going myself right now. I already have an engine in my firebird that is 426 hp at the flywheel....... when I get out of Iraq, I will build up the rest around it.

Re: 355 build up
The summit heads are rated to .480 lift, which is below your cam. Maybe the brodix ik 180 or something similar that can handle higher lift might be better. The 200 cc runners are a little big for a 350 with that size cam. The 180 cc would give you a broader torque curve.
The brodix ik isn't much more, but can handle the lift with any changes. It gives you a chance to upgrade down the road too. Another choice is the fast burn heads. Your cam would be great for them.
I am only using ported vortecs, and a xr 282 hr with .510/.520 lift. I got 426 at the flywheel on a 350. It still gets 15 in of vacuum.
