hey i have a 1990 RS with a 305 TBI, im looking to put a new crate 350 in it.
this motor i think would be a good swap and i could keep the tbi. it has 200 hp out of the box, im wondering if i just buy the block and put better heads and a cam in it, would i possibly be able to get it up to around 300 hp with some hooker headers and a good catback?
If so which heads and cam would go with it?
anybody got any ideas
if not this engine, anyone reccomend another one?

This would be the engine that I would run. Its got a factory roller cam, Vortec heads, 4 bolt mains, PM rods, a higher than TBI 9.4:1 compression ratio and a single roller timing chain. The engine is built to be worked HARD for a long period of time. Its 250 HP/335 TQ in the vehicles it came factory in. Modify the heads for increased lift and put the LT4 Hotcam into it. It them makes 401 HP/425 TQ and idles @ 700 rpm with 15 in/hg of vacuum.

GM even cast a factory intake manifold to run Vortecs and EGR, but you must plumb the EGR externally.

So what heads would you go with?
And you said the LT4 hot cam.
So should i buy the motor like it is and then modify theese parts or can i just buy the block and put the heads and cam on it.

I believe he's recommending Vortec heads.
You can do it either way. If you buy the shortblock, then get the sdparts Vortec head kit http://www.sdparts.com/product/SD806...keHeaders.aspx

Check the sdparts site for shortblocks.
You'll need cam, lifters if flat tappet, gaskets, headers, etc., etc., etc.
How much power depends upon cam, exhaust, induction, tuning, etc., etc., etc.

hey five7kid
what do you know about the GM Ram JEt 350
Im starting to think that this is my best option, it comes complete with the wiring harness and intake, and gives me 350 HP, and ill be able to stay fuel injected. it seems like the best way for me with my setup.
what do you know about this motor?

I know mostly what's in the sales information.
I've heard the computer that comes with it is open loop, and pretty much impossible to tune if you make changes to the engine (like cam). I've heard Arizona Speed & Marine (I believe it is) can take care of that if you need it.
I've heard of people and magazines putting them in 3rd gens. Even operating them with a TPI ECM.
I know the 350 HP is "gross flywheel" HP, meaning you'll never get that as-installed. More like 280-290, and that's assuming good exhaust.
