Wiring Harness options

Wiring Harness options
Ok, here's the run down. I'm swapping my 2.8L (circa 1988) to a carbed L98 (circa 1989). I intend on running a complete emissions system and I'm weary of chopping and splicing my existing harness. Before anyone wants to criticize, I have my reasons for running the emissions and I know it robs performance, etc. Anyway, I'm thinking about picking up a harness and ECM from an '82-'84 Firebird (the 5.0s were carbed). I want to know if this a good solution to finding a suitable ECM and wiring harness for my application. Or does anyone know if I could run a primitive emissions system without some kind of ECM or computer control.
Any help would be appreciated,
Steve

Technically, it's not legal in an '88 model year chassis.
Functionally, it's no problem. Makes sense as long as you can get by the legal part.
What transmission do you plan on running? Locking torque converter? 3-speed auto or overdrive? Manual?
If you're interested, I have the complete carb/distributor/ECM/harness/sensors from the '82 that is getting the LS1/T56. I've had some nibbles on the carb (rebuilt last year to pass CA emissions before I bought it and took it to CO, where it again passed the sniffer with flying colors), but the bobber hasn't sunk. Make you a great deal on the whole thing (and having it available is totally unrelated to my positive statements above).
Still have the 40k-on-the-rebuild TH200C as well. Sold the driveshaft, though.
