89' 2.8 (mpfi) --> 92' 5.7 (tbi)
I have posted in the General engine forum earlier this week, but i have a more specific engine swap question.
do i need to change anything to the inside dash (besides speedo cable and tach) when swapping from the v6 to v8? i already have the whole wiring harness installed to the engine bay. it hooks up to the firewall on drivers side, then to the passenger inside fender area. and the 92' computer hooks up to that.
i can comprehend and re-wire anything and everything that needs to be re-wired as needed, but any tips?
i also think i have a short somewhere near the firewall on the "new" harness... it smokes over there when i plug in my battery. i'll look for a fried wire the next time i go playing with the camaro.
anything (wiring wise) i need to do to get her up and running? atm, when i turned the key on, the usual "check engine light" doesn't come on, and the fuel pump does not prime. i dunno if i missed a wire or two, let me know please yes, the computer is hooked up to all 3 sets of wires, correctly. i am getting power, and the engine does turn over (i have hooked up a push button starter atm).

they were both 700r4's... and yes, i have the 2 wires and cables hooked up to the tranny.

i got her to run... but barely. after advancing it, she finally stopped catching on fire. lol.
now she bogs down real hard when i have the car running... i can un-plug the fuel pump and she speeds up, but eventually runs out of gas.
can anyone help me with a mpfi --> tbi change? what did you do?
thanks!

reverify your dizzy timing, it might be off some. I had that issue when I swapped the 2.8 for the 3.4. ran like azz until I fixed it.

Re: 89' 2.8 (mpfi) --> 92' 5.7 (tbi)
Alright, i have slightly narrowed down my problem...
i have replaced the fuel regulator in my car, and it acts just like it did before!
So, here is the problem that i am encountering atm! Both of my injectors work, and both of my wires to my injectors work... but i need to do some wiring from the 89' setup (v6) to this tbi 92' setup (v8); primarily so that both injectors fire appropriately and in time with the rest of the engine. it starts and runs, but it bogs down from too much gas and then not enough... its not fully in time, but its not extremely out of time, i dont know how to explain it!
so, i need a little help to see what i should do? do i need to replace the fuel pump (getting too much fuel????), or is there a simpler thing to do like rewire a few things? i know that someone here has had this problem, what did you do to fix it? let me know please! ty!
