305 to gm383 and a supercharger

Hi eveyone,

I am looking for the right motor about 3 months and I decided to buy http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku this one, I was planning about buying bluprint 383 motors but I learned that they use old engine blocks... Anyhow, I am very close to buy this engine, but before I do I want to hear some advice from you guys...

I will buy a new aluminum radiator, a new aluminum drive shaft, will do ed's disk brake upgrade (hope so...), and richmond 6 speed manuel transmission swap, finally and most importantly, I will buy a supercharge but I dont know very little about superchargers, so my questions to you are:

1) What are the additional things that I should buy when I do the swap?
2) What kind of supercharger fill be ok for the gm383, what part do I need?

I am going to buy the stuff when I get my answer, I am waiting for your response to order. If you make a list about necessary parts that I should own with that engine that would be very nice... I will inform you about the process with the car.

I will ask questions about richmond 6 speed in other section.

Thank you all for your help...

The ZZ383 has hypereutectic pistons, typically not recommended for power adder applications.

You'll get better advice regarding superchargers on the Power Adder forum.

Re: 305 to gm383 and a supercharger

Hello friend,
I also are in the same situation like you. i have an LG4 305 installed on a 1985 camaro. first i was thinking of putting a 454 big block but some people told me that lots of problems. any way, i decided to buy the same engine as you are refering to. but before you buy the engine, make sure that the type of pistons and crank shaft are capable of taking that loads of power. don't forget thet with a blower or supercharger you will get at least up to 100 bhp extra. so be sure that the rotating parts are capable of taking that power.

I also found a good site on the internet about engine builders which builds the engine using good products. check up this site www.proformanceunlimited.com and then talk to me. hope that the small information i have will help you more i your descision. if you want to contact me this is my e-mail cciantaravionics@onvol.net

Re: 305 to gm383 and a supercharger

I bought a 502 ram jet to put in a 91 trans am, I was thinking about supercharging the zz383 but I have change my mind Anyhow, I know that I will not have trouble to fit the engine (except the hood), I was planning on do some mods that I want to ask you people for the make the right mod.
1) 8 point Roll cage (but I need to get in and out easily from the car) (compettition engineering or spohn)
2) Which housing for the rear end? Which is better for street and track (4.11, 3.90, 3.73, I want to accelerate fast)(moser 9" or compettition engineering
3) K member or not to K member
4) TKO-600 but where is the best place to get it?
5)I will swap rear drums to disks, should I change my master cylinder? I will use wilwood 12.6" setup.
6) I have spohn sub frames, lower control arms, wonder bar, and torque arm, should I replace them with an other brand or should are they(spohn) reliable?
7) I have tokiko struts and moog springs when I put the 502, do I need to replace the front springs??
Only these questions come to my mind for now

Thank you for your time...

Re: 305 to gm383 and a supercharger

holy s**t. that is a big differece between a 383 and a 502. i wish you fun with that RAT motor. So do you think that a 454 wil fit without any problems in my camaro? when i was talking to some friends, they told me that due to heat inside the engine bay, there can be some fuel problems (fuel vapourizing before entering the carb). So be carefully to put a high performance radiator to cool that monster.

Sorry my friend but i cannot help you with those questions right now. i will talk to my friends tomorrow and let you know as soon as possible.

Re: 305 to gm383 and a supercharger

Hello,
Yes I think I searched enough and realized those heat and fuel problems so I come up with a solution(thanks third gen:P)

I will buy the 502 ram jet engine and usa a ram air hood so that air wont be a problem and under the hood there will be a nice cool air.

I will use electric fuel pump so that It can pump enough fuel easily and of course I will use a Be cool aluminum radiator and an electric water pump, (I will get a few HP by using it too)

The biggest problem is the headers, I read in the BBC swap thread that I can use a header from a company called P... somethin I do not remmember now. But I belive that I will need some modification while putting the headers...

I will open a new thread when I get my engine and will have a toons of questions probably, even I wrote some questions in somewhere in TGO, probably in BBC Swap thread.

Have a good one...
----------
And an update to questions:

I said I will buy a TKO 600 but I feel like I might pump nos, so when I do that, the tranny might not hang on to that kind of power, so can you advice me a manuel tranny that can handle 600-700 ft/lb torque??

Thank you all...

Re: 305 to gm383 and a supercharger

Hello friend,

Check www.phoenixtrans.com they have g/b for up to 1000HP.

About the headers, i think it is a good idea to manufacture them yourself
(i mean some exhaust specialist). They need to be manufactured exectly so that there will be adequate clearance between the chassy and the headers.

That is all i know about the headers my friend.

Re: 305 to gm383 and a supercharger

The Hookers don't fit good, but they aren't THAT bad.On an as delivered 502,I say run them, much cheaper than a custom fabbed set.have your grinders and some patience on hand, they will go in.As far as all the other myths tied to a BB 3rd gen,I call BS.I had MANY different combinations of SB in my car,and a mild 468 was the most enjoyable setup I ever had,and with some breathing,it would have easily been the fastest. No harder to cool than a 406,the way to go IMHO.
