LT5 in a 3rd Gen

Does anyone know if an LT5 from a ZR1 will bolt up to a Borg Warner T56 from a 97 SS Camaro? I want to do something differant, everyone is doing LS swaps so I thought an LT5 would be cool, I was wondering how hard a swap it would be.

Re: LT5 in a 3rd Gen

Hard. The LT5 is a totally different animal. To start with the starter is under the tunnel ram of the intake manifold or something crazy like that. Its 32 valve. Its been done once or twice in a thirdgen but the LT5 engine is extremely expensive as a crate and expensive as a used engine. $20,000 for a LT5 crate engine.

Bolting up to a chevy tranny would be the least of your worries. Exhaust, motor mounts, wiring, power steering, etc would all have to be figured out on your own.

Its a cool idea and all but its really out there. Probably be about the same difficulty as putting a 2007 mustang motor in a thirdgen. Mostly because no one or almost no one has put one in.

If you're serious about it and got the money: corvetteforums.com might be a good starting place to look.

Re: LT5 in a 3rd Gen

the lt5's are sweet but I dont see it worth all the effort to put in thirdgen way to much money would be required for the swap

Re: LT5 in a 3rd Gen

for the money it would cost just to buy an LT5 you could get an ls2 crate motor and a supercharger and everything to bolt it into you 3rd gen and still have a little money left over and be a hell of a lot faster BUT it would be very cool to see and not too many people out there can say the have a ZR1 motor in their 3rd gen

I'm not too familiar with LT5's, however, I do know that GM installed a ZF6-Speed (one used specifically from a ZR1 to handle the excessive torque) onto a 454 Big Block used in a project known as the ZR2. I'm assuming since the ZR1's tranny was installed onto the BBC, and since the T56 also fits the BBC, then a T56 must fit onto the LT5. Worst case scenario, get an adapter plate made if it doesn't line up correctly....
