73 Pontiac Ventura LT1 X BODY SWAP
Around 8 months ago i purchased a 1995 LT1 engine with iron heads ( probably out of a caprice) I have since upgraded my suspension to disc brakes and replaced every single part of the suspension, welded in new pans and installed a floor shifter. My engine package came with a 4l60e tranny, wiring harness and ecu. I planned on completing it for this summer but it does not appear it is going to happen. I would like to swap the iron heads for ported aluminum heads to build around 400 hp to crank. I wanted to find out some information on what i need to do to obtain these numbers. If i would have to stroke it or if i could do it by simply upgrading the top end. The engine has about 50k miles and the bearings look good so i dont think it will need a rebuild unless i have to stroke it to get the hp gains i want out of it. Any information regaurding wiring or engine upgrades would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to thirdgen.org.
I'll have to admit you're stretching the limits of the "3rd gen" part. But, since many 3rd gen members have LT1's installed, I'll at least allow the discussion of engine upgrades.
The wiring into a Ventura, though, goes over the line. The guys on www.ls1lt1.com might be willing to help you out with that, though. Or Painless Wiring.

I want to build around 400 crank hp i was told this could be achieved by a cam and some long tube headers. Is this really attainable with an iron head LT1? Also, when your purchasing aftermarket cam and they say not to be used with stock valvetrain components does that really mean that or is that just a suggestion LOL?
