LS1 in a third gen and strokin
Hey has anyone put an LS1 in their third gen. I was thinking about it insted of an LT1 (I have a 305 now) just becasue of the aluminmum block for better cooling. Has any one here stroked a LS1 or LT1 to a 383 or I have seen a few stroker kits for 408 on ebay. What kind of power ya getting and how far did you go with the build money and performancewise?
Thanks

I realize you're new to the Board, but check the stickies at the top of this forum, and the LT1/LS1 sub-forum within the Engine Swap forum.

They want the swap questions on this part. The subforum is for those who have theirs going.

You can make an engine cool better by adding an aluminum radiator, better fans, lower thermostat, electric water pump,etc... Some people would rather have an iron block for the extra strength. There are iron vs aluminum LSX block threads on ls1tech.com.
I'm not trying to be rude but other sites like camaroz28.com and LS1tech.com would have the information you are seeking or people who could answer your questions very well for LT1 and LS1 information. There are a few people that have stroker LT1/LS1 on TGO but not as many as on those sites.

I'm thinking about going with a stroker LT1 someday also. The route I'm thinking about going is a shortblock(no heads, intake manifold) crate engine from victory racing engines. Then have the heads ported by llyod elliot or get some aftermarket heads.

Re: LS1 in a third gen and strokin
The alum. LSX blocks will hold up to 1000 HP. A 408 stroker will require re sleeving on LS1/LS6 blocks, or you can run a LS2 block or an iron 6.0L block from a truck. The LSX will hold a 100-150 shot of nitrous with good head bolts, if you want to spray more you will need head studs and good gaskets. If you are going to spray 150 or up on either I would replace the weak stock pistons, "THEY WILL BREAK" maybe not now or a few months down the road but they will break.
