LT1 with crank trigger ignition, TPI ECU
This is just one of those thoughts thats gonne eat away my brain power until someone tells me I am wrong.
But I was thinking, if you were to swap in an Lt1 much like the instalation of one of those modified LT1 intakes with the distributor provisions. But instead of the SBC short block with the distributor, you just bolted in a whole LT1 and convert the ignition over to an aftermarket crank trigger. (I have heard the LT1 ignition is a weak point anyway.) Than use the batch fire TPI Ecu with a custom chip eliminating the digital ignition timing. That way you would have a relatively new shortblock, alluminum heads, and all the other LT1 goodies, minus the weak ignition. Those crank trigger ignition kits are pretty bad ***, a coil for every 2 cylinders. I hear of alot of Power adder / high RPM gurus using them. Would that be a more straight forward swap? Or is it just silly? Or has it been done?

sounds like a rediculous amount of work for an ignition system that isn't as "weak" as everyone makes it out to be, especially when there are already aftermarket ignition systems that deal with the Optispark.

You still need the signal from the optispark to allow the pcm to control your fuel, there are also two setups to convert the LT1 to multi coil operation (one waste-spark with 4 coils borrowed from the northstar, the other with 8 LS1 coils direct fire) and it retains the optispark for its cam signal, pulling the high side voltage out of the opti reducing most of its chance for failure, and also increasing spark capacity.
