LS1 in 91 Camaro...how to keep it California legal
So I am looking at swapping an LS1 in and getting rid of the 305. I am just really worried about having to deal with emissions here in california. What do I need to worry about? I wanna add some sort of cam, and if the 4th gens are able to pass with a specific cam, will I be able to also? Any advice would be appreciated.

Put in all the LS1 equipment, and put in an emissions-legal cam.
Shouldn't be an issue after the motor change referee is satisfied.

How **** are these ref's? Are they any different then the average smog check places? The places I have gone have only done the sniffer check. They never actually looked around inside the engine bay for smog legal stuff.

I think there's a difference between the referee stations, and the standard, run-of-the-mill, garden variety smog check. You can check on line for engine swap requirements (carb.ca.gov, or something like that) but I would do some serious checking before I did that swap.
Is it that important that you have an LS1?
