Engine Recommendation

I just wanted some people with more knowledge than I about engine swaps to advise me of something.

I want to swap a new engine into my 89 gta eventually and was thinking of a 383 crate motor but the guys at my work were telling me to find an old cadillac motor and rebuild it and what not.

I want an engine with about 450-500 hp and 500 ft tq that gets around 10-12 or better gas milage and can be used as a daily driver

What would be my best route to go?

(id also like it to be adaptable to 5 or 6 speed)

Tell the guys at your work that they dont know a damned thing about thirdgens. You dont want to mess with the hassle of a caddy engine in your thirdgen. Go built 350, 383, or 400. They will all fit like a glove.

383 would probably prove to be easier and get decent mileage...but all 3 would serve your needs great!

383s are good. thay are capable of alot of power. but really like 400s if you can find one. they make a **** load of torque with very little work. with a good set of heads and a nice cam you could deffinately achieve your goals. both are great motors

i'd stick with 350's the parts are cheap and plentiful.
383's are a bit of a hybrid, but they have an aweful lot of options headwise now... unless your making a truck motor i'd stay away from 400's

350 parts work on a 400 just as well (heads intake cam)

obviously the only difference is the short block, but more cubs is always better.

I would build a 400 if you can find one, other wise 383.

are you keeping TPI (stock intake) or upgrading to MR/SR/HSR? or switching to carb?

Can't use any part of the rotating assembly though.
