Hey bigchief - don't bother re-using the same 305 heads. Those smaller valves and the rest of those heads will literally choke off your 383 and leave it starving for air. The intake on the 305 is the same as the 350, but the heads sure aren't. Save yourself a lot of disappointment and trouble and change out those heads at a minimum while the motor is out of the car (it's a lot tougher once it's installed to change heads). If it were me (and it was - I did the same swap in May), I'd put on a higher flowing plenum and runners at a minimum. You wouldn't have to go with the expensive SuperRam like I did, but at least get some after market higher flowing runners (SLP, Accel/Lingenfelter, etc.) and a 52mm throttle body. Then you'll come closer to realizing the potential of your 383.

Hey, bigchief, I agree with VERNW, 305 head will choke out a 350 or bigger engine....and throw the compression through the roof!!!!
VERNW, no prob.with the "hi-jackin"..we all (or at least most of us) are just lookin for a lil help.....glad you could provide...
Cali92RS, From what I have gathered from the lil "jonts" I have taken in my car, it (the 3400 stall) seems like it will do just fine on the street. The girl (YES, A girl) who built my converter ASSURED me it would be fine. So far so good....hope to get it out there on the street a lil more to see how it does!!
Your decision should be made by the other components you are runnin..i.e. cam, tranny, rear gear...etc.
Thanks fo the replies

well, i just didnt have the money for those heads guys. i ended up leaving them and machining them. i heard that the high compression will help me in the long run if i port them later on. what do you guys think of me getting the following things:
edelbrock base hi-flow manifold
edelbrock hi-flow runners
accel 24 lb injectors
edelbrock emmissions legal headers and Y pipe
dynomax hi-flow cat
custom prom
do you guys think getting all of these things, and keeping those heads unported will cause problems??

I would steer clear of the Edelbrock headers.
Had'em on my 305 and didn't like them.
I would spend the extra money and get a good set....I love my SLP's. nicer bends, larger, better flanges....etc...
good luck.....
If ya give up, I've got my car up for sale....driveline is done.....needs paint..
