L98 4-speed

This should classify as 3rd gen tech since it's a 3rd gen engine and 3rd gen wiring and I do, after all, drive a 3rd gen.

So I have this dissasembled L98 out of an '89 Z in my shed. I've decided to clean it up, do a little work to it, and stick it in my Jeep (in place of the 258 straight 6 with the seeping head gasket.) I do have a couple questions about the swap that I hope someone has an answer to...

The truck has a Dana 4-speed. Does anyone know offhand if the early 3rd gen 4-speed bellhousing will bolt up with the trans? Or maybe an old Muncie bellhousing?

Is it worth it to convert to Speed Density, just to avoid having to buy and plumb a MAF sensor? Tuning for the port work and cam changes won't be an issue, since I'm teaching myself to tune EFI anyway.

Does anyone know what I can do about the VSS input for the ECM? Any aftermarket devices that will hook up to the stock speedo cable and generate an electronic signal? How did the early TPI cars with the mechanical speedo do it?

That's all for now, but I may be back with more in the next couple weeks. TIA

Bellhousing will bolt up to the block, but you'll need a clutch and flywheel for a 1 peice rear seal engine.

Might have better luck with this question over at www.nastyz28.com though, they have more guys using new motors and vintage drivelines.

Take a look at this for a possible VSS solution :

I've never used anything like this. But, it would probably be something to consider in your swap.

If you're jumping into the chip burning waters anyway, I'd think there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference between SD and MAF. If SD makes the hardware related stuff easier, I'd go with it.

'81TTA, thanks for the link that's probably what I'll end up using.

Air_Adam....I know the Muncie and early 4-speed bells will bolt to the motor, what I don't know is whether the Dana tranny will bolt to those bellhousings. And thanks for the tip on NastyZ28....I'll try over there and see what I can come up with.
