454 Ram Jet
This guy has a Challenger with a Chevy 454 Ram Jet, he wants to get rid of the car, but all i wanted was the motor, he was willing to trade for an 84 Rx7 i have in the backyard, any precautions i might need to take before putting in the 454 from my 383? or is this even a good idea, idk much about engine swaps, i was just wondering what i might need to think about before removing the 383 and replacing it with the 454

The search button is your friend. Only good things come out of using that button. Its pretty much a direct swap, try and get the accesories with the engine, will make things much easier. Hit the search button, then ask questions.

Headers, exhaust, and hood clearance (with the RJ intake) will be the biggest issues for you. All pretty easily solved though.
You will NEED subframe connectors though, or you'll murder that poor car.

are these the only things i need to have this swap made gold?
More hood clearance would generally require a hood that has maybe a cowl, or some type of scoop to give it that clearance correct?, i was looking to keep my car in the sleeper fashion, is there a way to get the hood clearance w/o adding a cowl or scooped hood?:lala:

Thats not nearly all of it, but those seem to be the biggest things (judging from others' threads)
I'm sure you could find a way to make it fit under a stock hood, but it won't be easy.

The only way to see is set it in there and see what it clears. I could imagine it fitting, but a maximum of a 2inch hood may be required. Still, pretty much a sleeper look if u ask me. It wont be a sleeper anyways, if you have an exhuast, you sure will hear the lope of a big block.

lol, my exhaust isnt a loud one, i run a hi-flow exhaust manifold, but my exhaust system is a quiet hi-flow, not to say the "lope" of the 454 wont make it louder than it is, but if it wont fit, i'll just sacrifice my sleeper look, because there is no way i am going to give up that motor just to look stock

what fuel injection system is he running?
GM sells a 502 RamJet crate motor... but a 454 ramjet would have to be pieced together.... be nice for a older daily driver though...
like a 69chevelle convertible or somthing.

I run high flow manifolds to, but you can tell i run them get a cowl, some nice spintechs, and have urself a quick car. Hell, i have alot of **** still watning to race me they way mine looks without a sleeper look, i jus tell them they are a waste of my time. he he. Have fun with the big block, ull have some fun with it..

shouldnt have a problem with firewall clearence becuase you will be running a distributor after all.. I think. I run a HEI with no problems... I can pull it out and everything ok with no bangs in the firewall.. Its just like putting in a SBC, jus alot more power and torque to go along with.. Plus the coolness factor ranks very high....

Yea, the intake is very tall, but in reality, it's not much taller (if taller at all) than a typical BBC manifold, carb, and air cleaner.

but hoods slope down in front... and its still as tall as the carb air cleaner when its at the front of the motor.
thats the clearance prob in some cars..... then again, every car i want to put a ramjet in, already has enough room

Take a look at an L69 air cleaner and its snorkels from the side if you get a chance. A real factory one, not a custom one. You'll notice that the scoops and ducts don't really slope down much from the level of the air cleaner. Thats why I say it might be possible to fit under a stock Camaro hood... maybe not a Firebird though. They have alot steeper slope.
