Vortec Heads, good/bad

Chevy Hi perf Mag, says the stock iron vortec heads can produce 400hp stock..
Does anyone use these? Will they bolt up to an older block? how about headers? any trouble there? I kno wthe intake would have to be different..

Thanks.

lots and lots of people use them, myself included.

they bolt to a regular block, headers bolt right up, they need a special intake.

do a search, there is tons and tons of information about them

i've heard and seen lots of build ups using vortech heads with great hp and tq numbers. deffintly the best head for the money if you are willing to buy the special intake, reach really isnt much more then the standard head intakes.

Well if you do the flow math of what they are capable of producing it equals 492.34hp. How accurate that equation is I have no idea
But for the money and the fact they flow very good at low lift makes them a definate bang for the buck that goes beyond the typical magazine hype. Leave the valve size alone and just do some port work on the exhaust side for starters unless your really good at head work and 4-450hp is easily attainable on pump fuel.
