I got my big block in, Orginal v-6 car
Ok, here is a great story. Me at 17 years old, work at a shop after school everyday. And for all of you who say you cant put a big block v-8 in an orginal v-6 car or just a v-8 in a car, you dont have to change that much at all. And just for the record i did it all my self. My funds are not the best tho as i had to borrow money from my dad which i will be paying him back in payments. I put in the new motor mounts, had a build 700 r4 laying around, could use the stock v-6 driveshaft along with a rear end, and used the stock radiator. AS you know, the stock radiator at least on a 90 camaro with a 3.1 is aluminum with a single fan. I had to take out the single fan as it hit the water pump pulley and had to move the fan to the front of the radiator with custom cbrackets. I have a 160 stat and so far it is cold out, around 40 degres but when a single fan is one, the joker never is over 160 sitting there idling at 1000 rpm. As for the engine, it is a very radical engine. A very lopey cam, only getting 7" of vacumn at 600 rpm. It has 11:1 compression and is said to have 530 hp on a computer dyno. It is very hard to drive on wet pavement tho as the tires spin every time you take off no matter how easy you ease on the throttle. A victor intake with a 1 inch carb spacer and eddie 750 carb, 2003 chevy truck manifolds that are stainless steel top out the exhusat with dual 3 inch pipes that i ran myself with dynomax bullets. I have powersteering which the pump is off of a 89 suburban with a 454 along with all the brackets. It runs off of 2 v belts, one ofr the alternator and 1 for the pump. Power breaks do work if i set the idle up around 1000 rpm with i have around 10" of vacumn, just enough. The car is set up for air conditioning but i will be putting that on in the spring when i get a set of dual electric fans that should clear the water pump. Just a little story and i remember all you nay-sayers saying a 17 year old cant do it himself because he did. I encourage anyone to do this swap as it takes time, but it is well worth it in the long run.

Awesome! I listened to everyone when I was 19-20 years and had a 92 Firebird in mint condition. I sold it thinking it would be too expensive and too much hassle to swap a V8 in. I am now learning that isn't the case and I should have kept my car.
As I said before, if people can put a V8 in a Fiero theirselves, a thirdgen can't be that hard!

Nobody said it couldn't be done, or that you couldn't do it yourself. All anyone has said that I've seen is it's marginally worth it for a street driver. For a emissions-required street driver, the swap gets a lot more complicated, and the BBC just plain isn't legal (unless they don't open the hood - and I doubt yours would pass a sniffer-only from the description).
What you did is less complicated than a V6->V8 emissions-legal swap. Yours may be streetable (as in, can be driven on the street), but it won't make a very good daily driver. If you take it to the track you'll most likely need a roll cage. The 10-bolt's life is limited if you do many full-throttle launches, as is the TH700 unless it's been properly prepared (I know you said "built" - but that defination varies from person to person).
Not trying to down-play your accomplishment, just countering the half-truths. Very likely will go BBC myself when the Camaro is eligible for 5-year plates and doesn't need emissions inspection/testing every other year. Cheaper than building a mega-mouse.

I just looooooooooove Florida. Why do you ask??? No emissions testing thats why! Congrats on the swap dude just if you put slicks on it that rear is gonna go bye bye. Hell even on my bro's old 2nd gen bird with 8.5" which(correct me if I'm wrong) is beefier than the 7.5/7.625, with about 420hp it snapped the c-clip retaining pin in two and for some reason made the car "posi" even though it was an open diff. Also just a word of advice becareful and don't loop that car around and wrap it around or into something.

HA Ha. No emmisions. Thank jesus. IT wasnt to complicating really. Teh 700 is Built right. All new parts high quality with a transgo shift kit. The only thing that makes it not a daily driver is the exhaust. No speed bumps for this puppy. He he. I will get the picks as soon as my other computer is up and running. I am just happy i have one of hte best cars in school and did it all myself. Thanks.

I will get the pictures as soon as the old computer allows me to. I like the setup. As soon as i get my short valve covers, i can get my air conditioning in for a cool ride. That will be much better. I will run that a/c right over the power steering and it should all fit right underneith the hood no problem. Now all i need a dual fan set-up so i can fit teh condenser in there. tHanks for your help when i was puttin this together all who helped. Now i have one badass car. Now if only i could get these rims to fit...

So let me get this right..
A big block w/ virctor jr intake, 1" carb spacer all fits under the hood?
I'm just wondering because I'm getting ready to swap mine and I was told to make a hole or get a cowl hood.

Congrats! Let us know how it runs. Just be sure to have some extra money set aside to upgrade parts as you find weak links in the system. But most of all have fun!

Extra money he says. teh he. AT 17, u have no extra money. At least not me. I just got my whole underbody chassis tied together and now i need to get my new front springs along with my exhuast tucked up a little higher. It runs great. Shreads the tires in 2nd gear easily and still dont have my carburator tuned right nor the right one. That is the weakest link i have, carburator and rear end. I need at least a 950 double pumper or a 1050 dominator would be strongly recomended i hear. Anyone feel like donating? ha ha I am going to try on the pictures tonite...

Yeah, i will get my ac in there somehow, dont know how, but it will be done. I will get more pictures up soon. I just wanted to get these up because people wanted to see them. Once you go big block, u will never go back guys!!

Yep, nothing like a big block. When my 2.8mpfi puked a lifter I decided to put in a 427 I had in the corner. That was 5 years ago and it's still a blast to drive.

I removed the front control arms. Without doing so you might be able to get the old motor mount bolts removed but you won't be able to properly tighten the new bolts.

Find your best friend, tell him to bring a case of beer and you will give him money for it. Then get a swival socket with some long extensions.. Get underneither the car ad go at it. Took me about 1/2hour. Not to hard at all.

gee, c keene if you only knew what you have to do to those headers. you wouldnt have had them coated just yet. I`ve got the merlin 310 rect. ports (which have a rasied exhaust port) and the same headers and guess what. Anyhow what block are you looking for? let me know.

Ckeene, the oil pan to use is the moroso7 qt#710-20451 at jegs, like 150.00 plus the pick-up, thier like 35.00 it just bearly hangs below the k-member and clears all componets. The hooker super comps just about touch it, like under the oil filter, so a kick out pan is out of the question. If you`d like E mail me with any other questions, The big block in the third gen is awesome! Its as if they designed it to take one. theres a lot to it but its worth it.
plugs are easy to get to, you can use a full roller arm under the stock late model valve covers(aluminum), the stock rad in new cond. does the trick, with the dual fan set up. you can use long water pump set up, my a/c box is still in there and useable. its the way to go. As far as a block I`ve got a #445 casting 4 bolt 7.4 that will clean at .060 over but the shipping would kill ya I`m in lower M.I. you should find one local, they can go for around 500.00 for a core block on the high side.

I have stainless steel exhuat manifold off of a 2003 chevy truck with the 8100 series engine. VEry big ports for much flow, and they look pretty cool.
