Crossfire electric pump, into TPI/Carb conversion...
Does anyone know if an 83 Crossfire intank fuel pump will hook up to an 86 fuel sending unit?
I'm considering swapping from TPI to Carb, and am already aware of the Mallory #4309 after reading about many swaps that took place on these boards.
The folks over at Jegs recommended to run a 3/8's line over the stock 5/16's return line from the AFPR to the tank, to avoid leakage (this if I maintain the stock TPI electric pump).
Although it's a good idea, I'd much rather keep the stock fuel lines functional. I read on these boards that a stock Crossfire electric pump only puts out about 15-25 psi (over the TPI's 50-60 psi), and was curious to see if anyone every adapted one to their TPI's fuel sending unit. This should eliminate too much pressure, plus keep the Carb happy (through the AFPR of course).
I have access to my tank via a trap door, so the install will be relatively easy. Has anyone here ever done this?
ANY feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hmmm, the OP hasn't posted anywhere on TGO since 2004. . .
But, can we assume you found this with the function?
If so, for that.

dimensionally the TBI and TPI pumps are the same, all you may need to do is swap connectors/do some wiring. Regulator regulates pressure, pump merely creates flow. TPI pump has a much higher flow capacity than TBI pump and as such a higher dead head pressure rating.

Yes, the sending unit/ level float can hold either pump as they are dimensionally the same. I don't have a good pic but here's one of a fuel sending unit:
See the pump at the end? it's held in by a clamp and a rubber hose to the hard line. If you buy a TPI pump it will just go in that same place, mounted the same way.
Here are identical pumps, they are off vettes but the one is a TBI and the other a TPI pump
TBI
TPI
The black rubber sock around the pump is just there to reduce the pump noise.
