LS1 Swap - perhaps a bit too off-top for the sticky
I know a guy that has a 98 Corvette LS1 for sale. From what I've been told, it comes with all the accessories and a slightly damaged wiring harness (from the vette). Only thing missing is the oil pan. The same guy also has some connections that can get me a 4L60E for fairly cheap. Included is also a couple parts that he bought to put it into his thirdgen (including a set of 2000 SS stock exhaust manifolds). The reason he's not putting it in is because he came across an LT4 and he already has a Firehawk with the LS6.
Here's where my questions come in. He wants to trade all that I've described for my L98/700R4 setup + 1100 dollars. I've read the sticky at the top and come up with a couple things I'd be needing.
* Have to get the computer and a wiring harness.
* Need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator
* Will need some exhaust work.
? - Am I missing anything here?
? - How does this deal sound?
? - comments or suggestions?
Thanks guys.

Why is it misshing the oil pan? This will work to your advantage because you will need to get the f-body pan anyway.

from what he told me, the oil pan was damaged in whatever wreck the corvette was in.
I've been trying to tally up cost and compare it to building up my L98. Here's what I've come up with:
$1100 for Engine, transmission, partial wiring harness, and some parts he collected for putting it in his firebird.
$550 for LS1Edit
$200 to get the exhaust to hook up
$850 for plug -n- play wiring harness.
That seems like alot of money past the initial investment of 1100. Heck, the stuff I'm going to have to get just to get it to run - a wiring harness and LS1edit to remove Vats cost more than the engine combo. I CANNOT justify all this.
Are there any alternatives as far as the wiring is concerned? How much do the painless kits cost compared to Speartech? Are there any places that will burn me a stock chip/pcm(don't know how that works with the LS1) with just Vats and the pressure sensor removed?
C'mon guys. I wanna swing this swap - it's just the HUGE amount of money spent on the simplest of things - wiring and a new computer burn.

Well I see you are in houston, get on the local f-boy board and get in touch with some LS1 guys after the swap and have them do the changes for you with their LS1Edit and throw them a 20 or 50 or something. Even a 50 would be much cheaper than buying it. There is surely someone around there who could hook you up.
As for the wiring harness, why don't you find/buy a cheap stock LS1 harness somewhere and mod it yourself. Its not really as hard as it looks, I know it looks really intimidating but just go slow and take your time. Do it once and do it right.
