86 firebird V8 swap advice.
okay, i'm a bit new to this fbody stuff, so go easy on me-
what is the would be the easiest engine to swap in to replace a fuel injected 2.8, in your opinion?
common sense would say a carbureted 305 or 350 (the 305 was still available carbed this year, right?), but will there be problems going from a fuel injected engine? would another TPI engine be a more simple swap, or is it a moot point as all the wiring would probably have to be switched, anyway?

The easiest swap would be to swap the car.
But, if there's some sentimental value attached to this V6 car, then the best V8 to swap in is the one that's in the donor car you find that has a good factory V8 in it. Carbs were still available in '86 and '87 (as you can see from sig - LG4 is the computer-controlled carb 305). But, that isn't such a big deal, as the '87s had an in-tank electric fuel pump.
There are a bunch of things to switch that are different between V6 & V8 cars. That's why the donor car is important. It's also why it makes more economic sense to just sell what you've got and go buy a factory V8 car.
I wasn't "educated" when I started this project. Found about about thirdgen.org about 6 months after I finished the swap.

I tend to agree with five7kid though. The best thing to do is just buy a V8 car, unless you've got a lot invested in this car like a spectacular new paint job or something. I also swapped out 2.8 in favor of a TPI V8, and after doing it I'm not so sure I'd do it again. If you are committed to this the best thing you can do is read read read read read read all the old posts pertaining to this swap and ask ask ask ask ask lots of questions. Best of luck to you.
