4L60E transmission

I want to swap in a 94 camaro LT1 engine into my 87 firebird. However, I do not have a tranny for it yet. Will a 4L60E tranny from 94-97 work (i know they came in trucks too-are they the same?) or do i need a tranny from '94. A local auto wreckers i was talking to said i needed one from that specific year. If they are different, what was changed?

Thanks everyone.

I think any of them between 94-97 should work, could be wrong though. 1993 was a 4L60 not a 4L60E so it will not work.

Truck 4l60e's might not have torque arm provisions.

Go to www.car-parts.com and do a search for the tranny on a 94 fbody. It will bring up all compatible matches.

thanks dennis. Will the torque arm on my 3rd gen bolt directly to a 4L60E?

PS i did a search on the site you mentioned and all the tranny's it found were out of '94 camaros and firebirds.

3rd and 4th gen torque arms are the same. I used the 4th gen on mine since it was newer and came with the trans.

if you get a non fbod 4l60e tranny like it did, you can swap tailshaft housings to get your torque arm to work. just need a talishaft housing from a fbod tranny with the 3 torque arm bolt holes

Torque arm will bolt up from what I understand. As for it only coming up with camaros and firebirds it probably means that they are the only ones that will work without modifications.

Another thing is I think you will have to modify/buy a crossmember for this conversion. 4L60E boats to a different spot. However, you can use a V8 700R4 by getting a 93 throttle body and have the chip modified to delete the 4l60E controls.
