LT1 ECM/PCM Questions

Hey All..

I'm looking at a 93 LT1 with all accessories and 75k miles for around $700.... only problem is no ECM/Wiring harness...

I think my best route is the speartech harness, since I've heard its plug and play.... however I have some questions.

Since I can get the cable to go to the 94-95 style PCM for a good price, and then LT1 edit or Tunercat after that, is it possible to get a 94-95 PCM and use that with the Speed density 93 LT1?

If so will I still be able to use the Speartech harness?

Call Speartech and see what they say. I doubt it though.

Actually I sent them an email...

apparently I can run the new PCM, and it will run in Speed density mode.. however I would need to buy the more expensive speartech harness ($700 instead of $600)....

also the speartech harness for thirdgen apps is no longer true plug and play... so I think I'm just going to buy a factory harness and pcm and try to wire it up myself.

What do you mean "no longer plug-n-play"? What's changed?

We had to stop what we called the full plug-n-play version of the 3rg gen harnesses due to year to year, and model to model variations in the underdash and bulkhead connectors. GM kept changing too many things between the various models and years to make it so that you plug everything in, and it all works.

We had to scale it back so that a given harness will fit a broader range of cars. I think it's still easy to hookup, but instead of a plug in for the gauges, you have labeled loose wires, so that part takes a little effort on your part.

Zepher and J's T/A used our harness on a recent LT1 project, you could ask them about the easiness or difficulty of hookup.

The harness we got from John at speartech was easy to hook up, at least for me it was. I liked having the seperate wires with the gauge labels on them.

Zepher: how easy was it compared to wiring up the stock harness?

Well, the stock harness has a bunch of wires and none of them are labeled and I've read about people running the modded stock harness and burning up alternators. The speartech one takes about 20 minutes to hook up and we had no problems with it. The car has been on the road since April.
If I could afford it, I'd put the speartech harness on my car.

Another friend of mine bought an LT1 to put into a 92 V6 Firebird and I am having him send the harness to speartech to have it modifed so it will be easier to hook up.
