How to check pushrod length/valvetrain geometry

Help. I ordered a adjustable pushrod length checker from comp cams, my question is, at what point should the rocker arm be in the middle of the valve? at zero lift, half lift, full lift? When I adjust it so its in the middle at zero lift, at full lift the rocker is way to the outer edge. Anyone know or have any pictures? Thanks
Jason

ok, let me get this straight, at no lift the roller on the rocker should be toward the intake, at half lift in the middle, and full lift towards the exhaust?

7.20 looks really good, 7.250 is ok but hangs off to the exhaust side a little far. What surpirses me is, comp cams recomends a 7.30 pushrod and I have protopline heads which have .100 longer valves requiring a longer pushrod. the 7.20 is .200 shorter than what I thought i should be running.

I guess thats why you check these things
