hey guys im swaping my v6 tpi for a 350 in about a week

i realy dont want the computer and wiring harness anymore

what is involved in running my car without a computer and wiring harness i have all teh aftermarket gauges that i need and i dont mind being without some things for a while

what hookup are needed for the engine to run

this is my first engine swap in case you could not guess

I can only assume you are going to run a carb. I mean you need a computer for fuel injection unless you are using mechanical fuel injection; nobody does that though!!

You will need some wiring: ignition (everything), starter, alt, fuel pump, headlights, tail lights, wipers, various sensors unless you are using all mechanical guages, can't think of anything else just now.

You may want to look into a wiring harness from Painless Wiring or something like that. They could probably set you up with a harness to hook up everything you need at a reasonable price.


PS I am sure somebody out there runs mechanical fuel injection, but they are not that popular. Hope no one is offended.

well im swaping to a 350 carbed its out of a 69 elky (not original)
im just wondering if the computer can be extracted from my car without alot of work during the swap i intend on buying all new gauges if need be

Yeah, it shouldn't be too bad. You can very easily unplug and remove the computer. As for the rest of the wiring harness, you have some options.

Use a wiring diagram to find circuits you need, then remove or eliminate unneeded ones.

Remove entire wiring harness and buy a pre made one to fit your application. Or if you are patient make your own wiring harness.

I am sure there are other possibilities so if you are creative I think you will figure something out. IMO I would determine what wiring I would need for the new engine and then just remove anything extra. Seems like the easiest approach to me.

Have you checked out the carburetor board? Maybe find some advice from those that have done this before. Good luck.

Get yourself a service manual. Maybe doing a search will find you one floating around here. Possibly the dealer or a service shop will get you one.
