A couple questions-cam choices, heads, assembly
Since my 305 is officially fubarred, I started looking for a 350 to build up. A friend of mine offered me the L98 from his 87 IROC for $100. Its complete minus rods and pistons. The motor was removed when he swapped to a 400 SBC.
First Question-Can i reuse the connecting rods from my 305 in a 350?
2-The L98 block only has about 65k miles on it. There is no ridge at the top of the cylinders, and you can still see the crosshatch in the bores. Could I get away with just honing the cylinders?
3-I was thinking I would use a rebuild kit from summit(with pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets etc.), the one with hyperreutectic pistons for 9.35:1 CR. Are these kits available in std bore? Alos, are these good kits, are is there a better one for the money?
4-I have been told I'll need to do some work to the L98 heads in order to use them with the ZZ4 cam I will be purchasing. What needs to be done?
5-Finally, how much $$ will I be looking at(on average) to have a machine shop hone the cylinders, hang the pistons on the rods, and assemble the shortblock?
Thanks in advance

You can use 305 rods. But, they are a little lighter and weaker than 350 rods. You'd be better off getting a set of 350 rods - most shops have them available. Have them checked or resized, ARP bolts a good upgrade for piece of mind.
The Summit rebuild kits are pretty decent, and are available in standard size.
You don't really need the cylinders honed - breaking the glaze is a better way to put it. That allows the rings to seat more quickly.
The heads should have better valve springs installed, and screw-in rocker studs are a very good idea when lift gets above about .470". Gasket matching the intake ports and some smoothing out of the bowls will help the cam work more to its potential.
You'll probably spend a couple hundred at most for the machine work. Not including the heads.
