?'s re: changing harmonic balancer after already having rotating assembly balanced.

If you have already had your rotating assembly balanced (using a neutral balance harmonic balancer), would it hurt anything to switch balancers? Example: If I had the assembly balanced with a "Fluidampr" and wanted to switch to a "ATI Super Damper", would it matter so long as they are both neutral balance? It seems to me that as long as they are both neutral, it doesn't matter. Is this correct? Any comments are greatly appreciated.

since you cannot balance a fluid dampner, and the super is an elastic you may be off a couple grams.

Unless a fluid dampner is on a 400 you leave them off when balancing, if it is on a 400 you only add the weight and not the whole dampner, on internal balanced motors you must leave them off or the fluid will mess up the computer while you try to balance by running to the out of balance area, thus giving you a false reading of balance.

You can have the ATI balanced to a true nuetral if its not already. You dont need the whole rotating assembly to balance it.

As mentioned above, when an engine is balanced, the balancer is not part of the balance weight. If the engine is an externally balanced such as a SBC 400 or a BBC 454, only the balance part of the balancer is used for balance. The flexplate/flywheel is also used on externally balanced engines.

Changing the balancer on an internally balanced engine will not change the balance weight.
