383 vortec question

I have a vortec motor. It has the fuel injection, but does not have the computer or wiring harness. Would it be cheaper and more productive to get a new intake manifold and carbuerator? It needs a new crankshaft so I'm gonna do a 383. Would it be best to convert it to carbuerated? I'm trying to get the most horsepower.
Thanks, Jake

Assuming you don't have emissions testing/inspection concerns.

The injection it now has on it would probably work if you have TBI now. Since you gave zero info about your current set-up, it's kind of hard to say.

Yes I have the stock tbi now. And emissions is not a problem.

Although 383 is common, it is not necessarily cheap or easy. If you have a machine shop do it for you, they'll be charging you for some manual labor clearancing of the block to clear the longer stroke. It would be best to have this done by a shop that has some experience doing it. You'll also need externally-balanced damper and flexplate, unless you spring the bucks to get an internally balanced crank.

Stock Vortec heads are not performance parts. They need machine work, too. Spring pockets, guide reduction, screw-in rocker studs should be considered minimum actions, since a new cam will be required to obtain "most horsepower". Oh, make sure that cam is intended for a 383 stroker.

Vortec RPM manifold, Holley 750, higher stall converter, headers-on-back exhaust - you'll be moving right along.

Thanks for the help. That's the setup I was planning on going for. Is the rotating 383 assembly kit from Jegs decent?
