Magnafluxing vs Pressure Testing
I was talking to the machine shop today and ask how much he charge for Magnafluxing , so his reply was $40.00, After a pause he said he could Pressure Test the block for $70.00. What is the difference between the two and which process would detect a crack or bad block with the most accuracy.
Thanks: David

Both have their advantages. A pressure test won't tell you about a crack that isn't leaking and having the block mag'd might not show a crack where you can't see it.
I've come to a point where I use a shop that does alot of high end work and I trust so I drop off my parts and have them call me with the bad news, then we go from there. I don't tell them how to go about their jobs, I simply say to check the parts and call me. It's the shops job to make sure that when the parts come back to me they're ready to go and 100% usable. It may not work for you doing thigs this way but it does for me.
