Anyone want a brand new LT5 for a swap?
I allmost fell out of my chair when I found this on, where else, ebay. I can't imagine you can find too many like this around anymore:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1873171458
It claims to be un-used. I find it hard to believe, but it sure looks like it to me. (There's a link to more pics of this bad-mamba-jamba at the bottom of the auction)
This is the ultimate production chevy smallblock in my opinion (yes I think it's even cooler than the new LS6 ZO6 engine).
Someone buy this puppy and bolt it up in their thirdgen.
Then let me drive it!

the Holy Grail of engines. I think some may argue it wasn't really a Chevy engine, but who cares. I saw that car with the LT5. What a beautiful combination.

I recall that motor being a $ 30,000 option on the ZR1.
the more I think about it, it isn't really worth it if you just want to go fast. Only 400 hp...
could go faster for much less...
but damn would it be cool!

I meant the price when buying a ZR1 vette went up $30K. And back about 8-10 years ago, the engine could be bought from GM new for around 24,000.
Regardless, the ebay engine has a good price right now.

Maybe only 400 hp..........STOCK.......that LT-5, with some tuning can put out past 600hp easy....and still keep going. Look at Lingenfelter and those guys...those engines are very versitile and can be modded with natural aspiriation to unbelivealbe amounts of HP....I have an older Vette magazine issue with a naturally aspirated LT-5 pushing 1,200 hp...in my opinion, that motor is the ultimate Chevy motor built to this day.:hail: :hail:

I watched a LT5 on a dyno a year ago spin 7000 RPM and want more. RPM is a direct function of speed and the LT5 has some serious rpm potential.

Keep us posted. You are better off going with the ZF 6 speed trans. It was used in the thirdgen firehawk and 25th aniv z28. You should have no problems getting it to fit.

The ZF only came with the firehawk. You are going to need to make a custom cross member and center consol to make it work. Very sweet transmission though.

T-56 won't work on an LT5?
And the ZR1 vette motor put out 410hp, right? and wasn't it at 375hp before about '91?

C5 trans will not work. T56 will not handle the power for long and will not bolt up properly. The ZF was designed with the LT5 in mind.
