i have spoken to this guy and have about a 20 page book on all the problems you can encounter. if i can't answer them he can. and yes i have money set aside for a engine swap and this is looking like the one. so i have done all of the research from wiring harnesses to the motor mounts. e-mail me with any questions or post them here. seems to be an interest to everyone who is looking to do this swap.

Chuck,
Why don't you organize it into a tech article that can be linked off the main page or added to the sticky at the top of this section rather than have everyone bombarding you with constant questions.
I'd be interested in the problems associated with this swap. Especially if they are issues not documented on the Speartech site. I know for a fact the the hydrolic clutches in the T56's attatched to the LS1's are basically crap so if you want power and any sort of longevity, your only real option is to swap in a 4L60E with the LS1.

or your other option is a cartech clutch they sell for around $800 and have been shown to be the best made to date for the ls1. people have gone through 3 z06 clutches in their car within 20k miles and then have switched to the cartech and have not had a single problem for over 20K. the cartech clutch is the best that i have found a little pricy but worth it if you replace 2 stock clutches it will total once cartech clutch.

Yes, the 4L60 is the way to go if you want longevity, but the real problem with the T56 isn't the clutch. You have to think, the 4L60 is better b/c its an old transmission. Its basically a 700R4 so GM has had plenty of time do work the bugs out, the only difference is that it's computer controlled. Back to the T56, the GM clutch DOES suck.....alot! The answer to that is a McLeod clutch. The same price as the Cartech clutch, but the plates are better designed and made and the whole thing is just plain better. The REAL problem with the T56 aside from the clutch is the synchro's. They like to lose the 2-3 shift. You'll hear alot of guys complaing of trouble going into 3rd. That's why. Its the synchro's going bad. We install about half a dozen McLeod clutches a week, often replacing Z06's and Cartechs. If you need a clutch, let me know, or you can PM me and I'll give you the number to the shop I work at (F-Body Central) and you can call for some tech advice. I am a dealer for McLeod so you'll get a good price.
