305tbi to 350 4bbl ??
Alright I have an 88tbi. We tried to convert it to a carb and we had it starting and everything.. but rod was knocking. I had bought everything new except for block, rods and pistons. The block was honed and cleaned. The rods and pistons were checked and cleaned by Napa. Well since I am taking the engine out yet again.. I am going all the way. Everyone I have talked to has told me to ditch the 305 and upgrade to the 350. Now here is what aftermarket I have now
Edelbrocks Performer Intake, Performer rpm Cam and lifters, and performer series 600cfm electric choke 4bbl carb.
Here is what I am planning on adding. 350 block bored .030
Performer Centerbolt Heads
Hooker sup comp headers
flowmaster force 2 cat back
keith black +.030 hyper. pistons
Proform aluminum rocker arms
I am going to need a different set of lifters, since the ones that came with are not the rolling kind. I would like a decent set somewhere in the price range of $200 give or take some..
Now will my 5 speed hook up to the 350 with no problems? With this setup could I be looking at 400hp Will my tranny be able to hold that.. I am having it taken out and inspected becuase the 5th and reverse gears are broken. Also is the only difference from a 305 the size of the pistons and cyclinder holes and the crank?Id appreciate all of that if you can help

You've got some serious mis-matches here.
First, though, whether your 5-speed will work depends upon the year of the 350. If it is '86-newer, no problems, it will bolt up fine. If it is '85-older, you will need a flywheel for '82-'85 3rd gen manual tranny application. Either way, make sure the 350 crank has a pilot bearing in it.
Okay, cam. You say it didn't come with roller lifters. Right, that's because it's not a roller cam. DO NOT attempt to use roller lifters with it! The ones that came with it came with it for a reason - that's what you're supposed to use. If you want roller lifters, you have to get a roller cam. Period. End of story. Also, the pushrods need to be for the type of lifter you have, because roller lifter pushrods are shorter than flat tappet lifter pushrods.
You said "Performer RPM cam", but "Performer intake". That's a mismatch. Use the manifold and cam that are meant for each other. BTW, the word on the street is that the Edelbrock cams aren't that great. You'd be better off with a Comp or Crane cam that will work with your manifold.
Proform aluminum roller rockers - don't do it. They are intended for stock lift cams only, and are only guarenteed 1 year and for breakage only. Guess what? They break. Stay away from them.
The difference between a 350 and 305 is the size of the bore (strokes are the same). Because of that, different block castings are used, so you can't make a 305 into a 350 by boring it out. Also, 305s use smaller chamber heads than 350s, but you're getting different heads, anyway.
400 HP is probably more than the typical non-WC 5-speed can take, at least if the HP is actually called upon. "Normal", everyday driving, it'll take it. Some guys have babied their T-5s and made them last behind high HP engines, but they know what not to do.

Ok .. thanks that clears up a lot. Expecially with the cam. The reason I had decided to change over to the 350 was that the performer heads were not meant to go on the 305. I just purchased the newer style heads completely redone from a local speed shop. My main intention was to get 300+hp from the 305 and if i can do it .. and save money in the process I will just stick with that. I will bore it out and have new rods and performer pistons on it. I have put a lot of money and time in this engine already. I decided to buy that intake for hood clearance purposes but have found a hood that i like that i think will work with a 14 inch air cleaner.. its the big block hood found on hawksthirdgen.com. Now I am a college student and I am on a budget.. If you were me would you consider just keeping the block boring it 030 over... changing the pistons and rods of coarse, then what cam would you recommend with that.. I have heard good things about a roller cam but my block is from an 84. If i went with the roller cam i would have to change what.. the cam and lifters, pushrods, and the rocking arms. is that right? Now with the headers and cat back from flowmaster... is acheiving 300 or close to it possible... I would rather stay with that set up and not have to worry about the tranny..
Thanks
