350 motor i found.
i guy i work with has a motor he wants to sell. its a 350 fuel injec. out of a '94 GMC Vandura. i think the motor has something like 200hp stock and 300 torque. can i put my 305 heads and tuned port injection on that motor? would it have a good bit more hp, if i ported the heads while they were off and got a bigger cam? soo say i can get the motor for $400 how much will the intire swap cost? around how much hp will i have, i am aiming for over 300.

Dude, don't bother putting your old heads on this motor....
I believe the heads on the newer block should be able to bolt up directly to your current intake manifold.
Either way, an SBC is an SBC.. and with the age difference in your blocks being as insignificant as they are.. I doubt there are any REAL changes. I say get the motor.. it may even be a 4-bolt!

That is the L05 motor 210hp and its heads are slightly better than your 305 heads. You should just drop it in complete with its TBI unit, injectors and sensors and plug your harness into those sensors. Use a ANLU cop car chip in your computer since it is the best FACTORY chip for a 350 1228746 ECM combo. If you want to squeeze some horsepower out of it. Drop the LT1 cam in it and that will really wake it up. Combined with headers, 3"cat and 3" catback you should have horsepower that is competitive with a stock LT1 car. If you add a S10 torque converter while you have the engine out you may even surprise a few automatic LT1 cars anyway. Then your next biggest gain would be gears and posi.

I'll offer a contrary opinion. LO5 heads are swirl port - terrible for any kind of performance. The '91 TPI 305 heads should be 081's, which are decent given they are 305 heads - and they will flow better with porting than the LO5 heads ever could. Have 1.94" intake valves installed, they'll be even better. The 58cc chambers will help raise compression with the dished pistons the truck engine will have.
Sticking with TPI would be much easier and probably less expensive than using the truck TBI. If I understand correctly, all you're getting is the engine, not the TBI, harness, sensors, computer, etc. Stick with TPI.
You have to be a little careful about cam selection with TPI, unless you're willing to learn PROM burning. The computer compatible types (I sure like my Crane), in a roller variety, should work very well.
While you're porting, do the plenum and base as well. This will help flow (even for a 305).
You didn't mention exhaust, but headers are a must. You have the better rest of the exhaust that the factory used, but it still could be improved. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is also a must-do.
300 HP is probably a little bit too optimistic for this combo, but you'll see a good increase over your current package.

wow, now these are some great replies, thanks!
well i had planned to port and upgrade the 305 heads and use them on that motor, therefore, my headers and floowmaster and borlas should still o back on the 350.i plan on porting everything possble when it comes apart. i am even going to have the bloack bored, and see if i can find a 400 crank(then it'll be a 383. if the dished truck pistons aren't a good idea from the truck, since the pistons must come out for boring, i'll prob get some forged ones. BTW; the 305 heads will only be on there temporaryily, because when i gather up more money from the motor build up i'll order some edels alum. heads.
