A new crate 3.4 will run you about $1700, and will not be a direct bolt-in (different oil pan, no provision for mechanical fuel pump a couple of things I know of). You should be able to find a good junkyard 3.4 or 3.1 for $500-$800, I'd think.
There may be more information for you on the V6 board, if you haven't checked there yet.

Wich reminds me of a story.....When I was in HS one of my many vehicals was a international scout..4 banger. I worked at a Chevron Station pumping gas..(back when). Anyway the thing wouldn't stay running, I was messing around with the carb, trying any screw, not having a clue what I was doing..when I noticed a screw inside the carb that looked loose....I thought hah, ill turn that screw and see what happens. Being the smart guy I am, I knew if I dropped that screw I would have big problems..so I got me one of those removable tip magnetic screwdrivers and headed for the screw....the damn tip fell out of the end...down the carb,,and destroyed my head and piston....yikes. I thought here i am in this shop with all these tools, I'll just fix it and no one will know......About 2 hrs later, the motor parts everywhere..my boss comes in, he Exploded..fired me on the spot...pushed my scout out on the street. I had to call my dad and tell him what a Dumb*** I was.....Moral of the story. Some things you can hide some things you cant....ASK FOR HELP.

My parents alerady know i blew it couse my dad towed me home. So now I hafe to put a new one in but this might work out for the better, cosue insted of puttin another v6 in im probley gonna put a 305 because around hear i cant find any v6 to put in the car and I have found several 305 for onley 250-300, yeah i know I would much reather put a 350 in but they aerady are kinda leary about me puttin the 305 in couse they dont want me to have the V8. So how hard is it to put a 305 in a 2.8 spot this would be my first motor swap. Thanks for all the help

hey fella, maybe i can help a little. I have two 88 camaros.. one 2.8 and one 5.0. I just recently rebuilt the 305 myself and added some little **** here and there. It costed me around 1400 to rebuild the 305 tbi. I had everything cleaned professionally and added a lot of new parts though. I have asked around for a few years now on how to change the 2.8 into a 5.0 and here is what i have found. You are first going to have to get the new engine. Secondly you are going to need to get a new wiring harness. You should be able to get one at a junkyard with the engine if that is they way you go. I have been told that you have to get a transmission to fit that motor. The 2.8 will not fit the 5.0. Make sure when if you get the engine from a junkyard to get the tranny or see if they have one that was the same as the engine. If you dont you could run into the problem of having the wrong flywheel as i found out. If you have any questions let me know. I also bought another engine for the 2.8 as i blew mine as too. It costed me 1200 for the rebuilt and another 1000 to have someone put it in.. but really its not that hard with the 2.8 because there is a ton of room to work with.

you can have my old 305 if you still want a v8. Just take it away and its yours (my mom wants it to be gone). runs fine but has 118k and bad valve guide seals like every other sbc.

darn it!!! i didnt see you lived in ohio... The shipping will probably be quite a bit. I dont think its worth it for an l03. Id just check your local salvage yards. For the same price you could get a comprable 350
