350 crate

350 crate
I am hoping to buy a 1990 RS 305 tpi camaro. I want to drop a new 350 crate in it. I was doing some research on that 350 HO Deluxe with 330 hp. But one of the senior members on this board slammed it and i was wandering which one to get. Where is a good place to buy one online or anywhere? And how would I make it so it pass the emission laws. Damn tree huggers!! If I don't go with a turn key model what parts for the stock engine would fit on the crate, like the water pump, distributor, ect. If the engine doesn't what parts would I need to buy to make the crate engine run. What other modifications would I need to make to make my camaro an imports KILLER? I also what to put new a new suspension on the car. Where is a good place to buy one of those?
I thank everyone in advance for you answers!!:hail:

The only thing I can tell you about the 330 HP 350 gm crate motor is, that since it's got the Vortec heads on it, it'll require a specific Vortec intake manifold. The main reason I didn't go that way, was because of the limited number of options for those new heads, since the bolt pattern is different and there's no heat riser for the EGR.I also live in California and needed it to pass smog without too much difficulty.
Originally, I was gonna go with the 300HP gm crate motor, but it's not being made any more, having been replaced with the 330 HP vortec crate.I ended up going to www.goautocenter.com and buying their 300HP TPI crate motor.
This is basically a 93 Caprice 350 short block (all-new gm parts)
with PM rods, hydraulic roller cam (optional Crane compucam for either TPI or TBI) and TPI heads (like the iron L98 heads).
It was about $1850 plus shipping (another $300) and comes with a warrantee.I've been real happy with this motor. It replaced my anemic 215,000 mile 305 and makes twice as much power.
The cam is mild enough, that I could stay with the TBI and computer controls, though it required a custom chip and the 350 injectors with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It also passes smog in CA (as a 305!) since the EGR and AIR pump are still operational. If you need more detailed info, E-mail me.
If you decide to run the 330HP vortec crate, the things you'll have to consider (if it needs to pass smog) are that you'll need to rig up an external exhaust tube to feed the EGR valve in the intake manifold, and like I said before, you'll need a dedicated vortec intake for TBI (Scoggin-Dickey) or TPI base (also from Scoggin-Dickey). Not sure how computer-friendly the 330HP crate's cam is either. The computer's more sensitive to duration/overlap than lift, and a 112-116 degree l/c will make it happy.
Hope this helps.

hey RICH92RS350 i think i bout the same crate engine as you.
My roommate works at a GM dealership and they bought the wrong engine for a capri so i was able to buy the engine for real cheap.
I wanted to know if there is anything i need to do to get this engine to work in my car. My 87 IROC already has 350 TPI in it. Being that this engine is for a 93-newer car will there be any problems with swapping it into my car...what about a new chip? I am going to put the engine in the car in a month so i have plenty of time to get any parts i need. the car doesnt run anyway... so what is another month.
Thanks for any info you can give.
Mike
EDIT
ohh yeah...the crate engine has Center bolt valve covers...as does my IROC...dont know if you needed to know that info or not

I was just at a site called www.cdpautomachine.com They have a 350/350 on that web site. Under the small block injected engines is this a good engine? Has anyone used this engine before?
